If it werent for energy efficiency we would still be living in caves. It is energy efficient improvements in our work (energy), that has taken human civilisation to our present predicament. The History of human civilisation is a story of energy efficient improvements in work practises. But instead of realising we have enough, that we are rich enough, and having a long long holiday to let the rest of the world catch up, We get fatter and fatter on the more and more **** that we stuff our whale like mouths, and chuck away. Ha. what would you do with the money you saved on energy efficiency? take a break. no way! you would add more **** to your pile, and cause more global warming! This is what we do. RENEWABLES are the answer. that and sharing the wealth and have a lifetime holiday, give the earth a break and us too! Now theres a new angle! Permaculture here we go

Energy efficiency does not cause global warming. The major cause of - and a good thing it is - global warming is that water vapor keeps the earth from radiating the day's warmth from the sun back into space at night.

Without it, the average temperature of the planet would be -17C (2F), and because if it, the average temperature is +15C (59F).

Next, there is no new global warming, and in particular, no new global warming due to human activity. Arrhenius was wrong, and after he was shown to be wrong, he stopped arguing. The period from 1947 to 1974 was marked by an average decrease in global temperature (the first Earth Day marked a concern about a coming Ice Age), and the NASA data from 1979 to 2003 shows NO increase (see link).

This author is a "believer", which means that after he reports how the science and the data do NOT support the hypothesis that CO2 causes GW, he gets back on board because of a later correlation by an amateur meteorologist. The correlation has not been borne out since.

So, the best response to this question is that it is badly framed and begs the question (by proposing the answer as part of the question).

- energy effeciency which we are NO WAY near achieving will reduce power production/ usage and therfore Co2 emission into the atmosphere. Co2 causes an increase in the greenhouse effect (a naturally occuring phenomenon).

energy effeciency is a major part of how we can decrease the greenhouse effect and thus lower the RATE of temperature increase which at the moment is far too great for the planet to handle.

The important word here is 'rate'. Its the rate of temp. increase that will f#ck us if we don't act.

What people forget about this whole issue is that we are humans. See that full stop there? If we look at Earth from space, we aren't even that big. My point is, our input makes no damned difference to the enviroment. Ice ages/global warming/major climate shifts all occured naturally before, millions of years before us puny little humans came about, and these climate shifts continue to happen on a regular basis (every few million years or so). We aren't causing it, it was going to happen anyway. Deal with it people!
