It depends upon your state. The previous posters basically have it right, it means the process after the court has decided some issue. Probably most used for post-conviction proceedings. Either (a) criminal sentencing, (b) probation, (c) post-conviction motions (such as for a new trial or a new plea or for the court to reconsider a decision.
