Start contacting airlines. You cannot "mail" animals and I'm concerned that a dog owner would even consider this.

It is illegal to "mail" a pet. Do not use the bus, they will put it under the bus where the luggage goes. (cruel, cold etc)

Call airlines to see about prices. If you can, get someone to fly her there, better for the dog to be in the cabin than in the back. Get all your vet stuff ready and have copies of it. Take pictures as well.

Just recently some people I know tried to ship their dogs. One had their dog shipped to a totally different place and they ended up having to rent a car to get the dog. Another one didnt get loaded into the plane. Please be careful, esp as we are entering the winter season.

I recently visited my Dad in Texas ( I am in California) and on the day before I left I saw the cutest mini dachshund ever! and brought it home with me. I was told to ship it seperately but I would never do that to a dog let alone a PUPPY. She was only 10 weeks when I brought her home. I bought her a ticket to ride with me in the plane (check with the airlines) and it was only $80 (I flew Continental). You have to take a little bag with food, water, toys, puppy pads, etc. and keep her in an approved crate (which you can get at any pet store for under $20) during the flight. (which is hard when she cries) and she must stay below the seat in front of you (although I snuck her out after take off and she slept in my lap hidden under the blanket until landing) . But it is much better than putting her below the plane with the rest of the cargo. It was very scary for her during take-off and landing so I couldn't imagine how she would have been in the cargo with nobody to comfort her. Please don't ship your puppy on its own... it can be very traumatizing for them. I would never buy from a breeder who ships their puppies...So bad for them!

Contanital air line is the cheapest and the safest for dogs they make sure the pet has water at all times and they make sure it is not to hot or to cold the cost is usally around 250.00 but most of the time the dogs or pet has to have health check cert. from a vet in order for them to fly I hope this helps and good luck on getting your new dashound they are so cute

You can ship it by plane. You'll need an airline shipping crate and a plane ticket. Not sure how much that costs since I would never ship by plane unless forced. My impressionis it will cost several hundred dollars.

I have heard many horror stories about shipping animals. Avoid it if you can.

You can have your dog
transferred by a special airline
which will probably cost you
or you can drive from Iowa to Florida with your dog

No, you cannot mail a dog. You can fly him cargo..it's about $200 in my location. Or, you can hire a private shipper to drive your dog to his location. This is about $300 but the safest way.

My son shipped(by plane) his 8 month old boxer pup from Alaska to Detroit. when he got deployed..it was not cruel at all. she was in a plastic dog crate, she had her blanket, that my son slept with all week..so it would have his scent on it..and comfort her..the vet also gave her a pill to take one hour before the plane left..she was fine. it was more humane than boarding her for 6 months or more...
besides, Zoe is my grand-doggy..who else could take better care of her than me?!

my dog was flown to me with no problem - jus contact the airlines Delta or continantal to see what they have - they only take certain 'animal' transports and require special crates - they are NOT put in the baggage comp- they are marked and in a special place which is temp controlled
