My Grandma is in the early stages of alzheimer's living in a retirement community less than a mile from our house. Her mind is really starting to get bad and she's getting very diffcult. She visits us a great deal, mainly because we are all she has, with the exception of her friends at her home. Her condition is not only taking its toll on herself but especially on my mom who takes care of her all of the time. The entire ordeal is really bringing all of us down and making all of us crazy. Does anyone have any advice on how to get through this?

My advice is to turn to alternative medicines.Health food stores carry 3 brain enhancers Huperzine A 300 mg,Rhodiola Force 300 mg,and DHEA which is short
for Dehydroepiandrosterone 100 mg. Take twice a day
with food.I went to health food store to get help for my neighbor's 90 year old father, who was showing early stages of Alzheimer's. They recommended these 3
nutritional supplements. It was truly a miracle his brain
is totally restored. He doesn't need retirement living anymore ,which we both believe they were ignoring his care.
He now lives with his son next door. When he goes to work the son makes sure his ADT medical alert button
is around his neck.He has not had to use the ADT alert button yet. His Dad is truly happy to be back living a normal healthy life.

My heart goes out to you and yours because this is such a horrible horrible disease. It is so hard on the loved ones. If its any consolation I'm quite sure at this point your grandmother isn't remembering the confusion. The only thing that you can do is find a support group or family friends that will take turns spending time with her so that your mother can have a break. Unfortunately it's one of those life situations that are essential but way to difficult. You will get thru it and you will be stronger for it. I will pray for strength for you and your family.

Unfortunately I dont have much advice. Im sure there are support groups out there for people with family members who are ill...there are tons of online support groups as well. I wanted to suggest one thing I heard can help prevent Alzheimers...crossword puzzles. Bring a couple books to your grandma and see if she will do them. I dont know if it can stop or slow the disease, but maybe it will help. I wish you well. To you and your family Im sorry to hear of your troubles. Just remember, even though she may not recognize you now, inside her, she knows who you are. I cant imagine the pain you must go through, I wish you love, light, help, health, happiness, and hope. Visit her as much as you can handle....I hate to say this, but when she passes, you won't feel as guilty...and know that when she does pass, if its 20 years from now...all those times you came to visit, she will remember. Ill send a prayer out for you and your family to the universe...God, whatever is out there....angels....to bring you peace in your heart. All my heart, Jenn S

Start by contacting the Alzheimer's Assn (a Yahoo Search) and the local Senior Center. There's lots of help available (including respite care) if you do a little searching.
