If you have a lot of plaque and tartar they will eat the ligaments that surrounds the tooth causing the gums to be inflammed and pressed down exposing the root portion of the teeth. That will cause the sensitvity. See your dentist every six months to clean your teeth.

you're brushing too hard! you need to go to the dentist so s/he can treat the existing condition. if you have an electric tooth brush other than sonicare, you need to trash it and go back to a basic one. go get you some Agent Cool Blue (or something like that), it's a plaque disclosing agent. swish with that for 30 sec. and brush your teeth as soft as you can, and see how little pressure it actually does take to remove the plaque from your teeth. it's shocking. remember, your teeth aren't a tile floor, scrubbing harder won't clean them better; it actually does more harm than good to scrub teeth. remember, 45 degree angle, small, light pressure, circular motions.

Gum recession causes this problem. You see your dentist, they can put fillings sometimes to help the sensitivity. If it is too bad then your Dr. can tell you the best treatment for your case.

IN MANY CASES, THIS SENSITIVITY IS DUE TO BRUSHING TOO HARD WITH BRISTLES THAT ARE TOO HARD. WHAT HAS HAPPENED IN THIS CASE IS GUM RECESSION. DENTIN HAS BEEN EXPOSED MAKING THE TOOTH SENSITIVE TO COLD. USING SENSODYNE TOOTHPASTE. PROCEDURES CAN ALSO BE DONE IF THE TOOTHPASTE DOES NOT WORK.
