There is so much meaning to life that has nothing to do with religion. Christians find meaning in the Bible and the directions that religious leaders give them. Athiests and agnostics must find a meaning for life without having it force-fed to them. I believe this... in itself... adds alot of meaning to life. Determining your own values and morals, deciding what you believe is right, and choosing a life of integrity. For me, the meaning of life is deciding what I will do with my brief time here, and do I believe I did something good, rather than abiding by the rules and the judgements of others. Living up to your own beliefs is a lot more challenging than paying a tithe and thinking that makes everything ok.

Atheism is not a philosophy about the meaning of life. It is merely a stance on the question of the existence of a god or gods.

That being said, I find myself drawn to the humanist philosophy. In short, I feel the meaning of life is to be as happy as possible while helping others achieve happiness. I don't really feel the need for any sort of metaphysical meaning to life, as I have more important things to deal with.

It means we can enjoy our lives, our loved ones, nature and the world without looking for devils behind every bit of shrubbery. We also don't concern ourselves with unproven promises of another life.

And when we do good works, we do it out of altruism, not because we're expecting some heavenly reward.

In short, we don't have to worry about all the irrational stuff that believers fret over.

Life does not come with guarantees or a preset meaning. Each person is free to invest his or her life with meaning and pursue goals that indicate progress toward a fulfillment of that meaning.

For myself...
I believe life is precious and we should make the most of the time we have. I try to live a fulfilling and moral life by the guidance of reason and human compassion. I believe that "the best use of life is to spend it for something that outlasts life" (William James). I think one should try to be the best person you can be; treat others with respect; say what you mean and mean what you say; be responsible for your own actions; be kind to others, particularly the less fortunate; treat the Earth and lower animals with respect; try to lend a hand whenenever able; share of yourself and let others share themselves with you; set a standard for yourself, but don't judge others by it; and stand tall but don't be condescending.

i'm sorry...I examine that over 2 cases. you're making extensive assumptions and generalizing approximately an entire inhomogeneous team of persons. "of path, they continually look to respond with "properly, you would be able to desire to make your very own which potential in existence. and that's in basic terms how that's." yet once I have been to take 2 human beings off the line and ask them, "what's the which potential of existence?" And one replied asserting "to love," and the different replied "To get wealthy," who's right? NEITHER with the aid of fact there is not any which potential of existence. you in basic terms would desire to faux existence has which potential with the aid of fact to an atheist, existence is without which potential. So it variety of feels self contradictory interior the atheistic claims that existence has which potential whilst in certainty, they are meant to have self belief interior the alternative." First assumption - that each physique atheists see issues precisely the comparable way as though there became some variety of atheist rule e book. 2d assumption - I even have not seen an atheist say there is not any which potential in existence. What they say is that, for them, existence is what you're making it. there is not any outdoors source that grants existence which potential. 0.33 assumption - that we are "meant" to have self belief something - yet in basic terms in accordance to you. "Im type of at a loss for words on how an atheist declare to have which potential in existence. To them our existence is such as a speck of airborne dirt and dust interior the ambience. In different words, existence is nearly an area pill drifting ad infinitum into area, no longer something we do interior the pill concerns with the aid of fact the tip result's inevitable. Whats the which potential (defined as value) in that?" it is in basic terms no longer genuine and that i do no longer would desire to be well mannered approximately that. You made up all that stuff approximately speck of airborne dirt and dust drifting ad infinitum and not something we do can replace something. I even have by no potential heard an atheist say that for the time of any way! So, why do no longer you let us know what you have self belief to be the which potential of existence? .

We are the accidental products of unthinking natural processes, and therefore the meaning in life can be anything we want it to be. For myself, I didn't choose to exist, but now I'm here I want to enjoy life, bring up my kids well, leave the world a slightly better place than when I joined it, and die having no major regrets about what I have or haven't done in my life.

This is an awesome question that I'm going to watch. I'm a Christian and it caused me to re-think if religion plays a role in my meaning of life. Wondering what your meaning is :-)

In atheism, there is no inherent 'meaning of life'. The meaning of life in atheism is essentially whatever you make it out to be. Most atheists, however, will tell you their meaning of life is to establish meaningful, loving, and caring relationships with family members and friends.

Get what you want out of it. If you want to indulge in bodily pleasures and monetary wealth, go for it. If you want to be a philanthropist or dedicate your life to serving others, go for it. Being an atheist is personal, so you set your own standards for meaning.
