If you purchased the car from a dealer, they will handle this process for you. You paid fees (application, title, documentation, etc) for them to do it. Look on your paper work from the dealer to see if they charged you fees.. I'm sure they did. Since they notified the state DMV, your title will be mailed to you. If you have a lein (car loan), you will receive a title with the lein holder noted on it. Once you pay off the lein, the lein holder will notify the DMV and you'll receive a new title with No Lein holder listed.

If you purchased this from an individual, you will need to do the paper work yourself. They should have given you the title (one with OUT a lein holder) that you take to the DMV along with a completed Transfer of Title application singed by you and the seller to complete the title transfer.

Hope this helps and congrats on the new car!

Congratulations on your new purchase. If you paid in full for the car and purchased it from a dealer than the title should come to you in the mail within 6-8 weeks from your purchase date. If it was purchased from a private party than the title should have been provided to you before you left with the car.

Happy travels!
