Now before the jokes start, let me explain. :D I've found that it's easier to focus on my work when I have something in my mouth, like gum. Problem is, chewing that stuff is bad for your jaw (I already have jaw problems), and I don't want to do it all day. I'm thinking like a candy or a coughdrop, except the sugar is horrible for teeth. And I hate sugar-free candies! lol. What can I put in my mouth to occupy it, so I can concentrate better?

The problem that you suffer from is the same problem that plagues smokers, the oral fixation. This is something that you can control if you ween yourself slowly. Try sugar-free hard candies that will save your teeth from the excessive sugar. Refrain from biting the top of your pen or pencils. Some people may find it disgusing to use a pencil or pen that has bite marks. In the end, you will have to get use to having nothing in your mouth. Also, try having coffee or water at your work site if allowed.

My daughter was evaluated by a occupational therapist and found to have the same problem. The school allows her to have gum for tasks in which her hands are busy. Otherwise the OT person gave her manipulative like a smooth stone or koosh ball. We found she put them right into her mouth. She has a 1 foot eraser she sucks on at times. We try to make sure she cleans it regularly. Try web sites that deal with occupational therapy supplies or if your insurance will allow it, see an OT specialist. Maybe you transfer your problem to your hands, or maybe like my daughter you are stuck with things in your mouth.
And to all of you who made fun of her, stop it. Just because you have never heard of a problem or don't understand it, doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Tolerance, people.

You took all my suggestions away. I think you could ask the dentist for a suggestion. No gum, candy, cough drops so your only thing left is a pencil and that can't be good. sorry.

I was going to suggest candy, but you already scratched that. So...brocolli might be a good alternative.
