to put a ban on the trans fat, or do you think that we should be allowed to choose what we want to eat. We are adults, (most of us) and we know what is good for us and what is not, and should be allowed to make up our own minds about what we eat... The trans fat will still be there in the things that we buy at te store, so what is the difference? What are your thoughts on the matter?

No, they have no right. In America the Constitution states that we have the right the Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness so long as it does not interfere with anothers rights. Drinking a bottle of trans fat hurts no one but yourself.

Freedom is being able to eat rare steak.

According to the founding fathers they wouldn't have had the right to ban anything. This really was founded as a free country. However, we have become a collection of sniveling weenies who want to blame others, so yes I think eventually trans fat and some other things which aren't good for you will be banned. Just look at all the state-level legislations in recent years concerning cigarettes.

Within a hundred years, if you are allowed to eat trans-fat (or smoke, for that matter) at all it will be monitored, and you will only be allowed to do so in moderation. And the gov't (read: other people) will be in charge of telling you what moderate means.

I have a much easier solution. Let the companies put as much trans-fat in their products as they want. The smart people will read the lable and eat somewhere else, and the stupid ones will die off. While we're at it I have a great idea for a tobacco law that would actually do some good: ban cigarette filters. The problem with cigarettes is that they kill too slowly. Get rid of the filters and hopefully the people who haven't figured out what a bad idea smoking is will die before they can reproduce. All these little steps will hopefully add up to prevent overpopulation. Let them kill themselves.

ugh, I talked about this on my blog last year. I think its terrible that companies are taking stuff out of food just because some people cant figure out how to eat right!

I wont buy wheat thins anymore cause now they have this awful aftertaste since they took out the trans fat.

I know its not all that good for me, but I dont live on the dang things! My girls and I eat well, very little snack foods, no junk foods and rarely have soda. WHY DOES THE FDA HAVE TO STICK THEIR NOSE IN?

People do not always have all the information at hand required to make a rational educated decision. Wanting to have trans fats with all the science attesting to the harm they do is only slightly dumber than smoking, which reports say could easily be made illegal in ten years, nationwide.

I personally am not suppose to eat foods w/ trans fats. They are bad on my cholesterol-make it rise. I have to pay for a lab test every several months to get the count of my bad cholesterol,so it would be a great benefit to me if trans fats were listed on restaurant menus & every food item on the shelf for sale.

I would like a ban on trans fat.

Nope!

It pisses me off that I live in San Francisco. There are only a few more years before foie gras will become illegal as well. OK...I understand the intent...to stop the force feeding of geese and ducks to fatten the liver. There are many natural goose farms. The govt is really taking an unnecessary step.

So...whatever happened to those fat chicks that sued McDonalds for making them fat? Maybe as a people we all aren't that smart at making choices. Hell if you are that stupid that you can't order a salad...or maybe just not order at all...some one should be baning something. Should this just qualify for people who are stupid...and who is deciding? I think you should be able to do whatever you want to...as long as you aren't going to turn around and blaming it on someone else.

I believe that the FDA (Government) DOES have the right to impose healthier standards for what we eat.
Down the line, the Government may be picking up the tab for your clogged arteries, so they are just saving themselves money.
Good idea. Get used to it.
