Well,
I guess youre referring to the word: la mawso oon in the very end of the verse that people have translated differently.
To be honest, from all those years of speaking Arabic I would say that this is clearly a word that means: we are verily expanding it. Because theres a constant feeling of 'vastness' in the word 'la mawsoo oon'. Sorta like: verily We are expanding.
However, it does not say: We are expanding IT; it says We are verily expanding.
The IT in the end of the translation is just a deductive reasoning.

The statements are very similar but they are not the same.
The first statement includes both skill and power in the act of construction and creating the vastness of space. This statement also does not speak to expansion.
In the second sentence, the construction is made by might alone, with emphasis on how it is ever expanding.
Also do you believe that the firmament and space are the same as heaven? Although these quotations can go together for a creation verses, not sure where they are from. The items as listed are not the same.
Firmament literally means the expanse of the sky and space from a physical stand point only. Heaven can have many different meanings, one being the skies above, but usually meaning beyond the physical into spiritual plane.

Sura 51:47-51:48
The reason this was bought up before was for the purpose of showing the usage of the word "We" as attributed to the one doing the creating. The question is, who is the "WE"?
One response was that the Queen speaks in the same manner and saw no problem with the usage of the word "We". The problem is, this isn't the Queen speaking as a Queen would be speaking of her subjects.
In the context of these verses, it is being attributed to The Allah who is supposedly creating the heavens and the earth. So therefore to use the word "we" is to suggest there is another person or another being aside from The Allah that is being given equal credit as a co-creator.
Of course this poses a problem for Muslims who deny the trinue nature of God. The usage of the words "US" and "We" in the creation account in the bible is appropiate because it is recognized that equal credit is given to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit as the One God who created all things.
Since Mohammad borrowed most from the bible, it is easy to see how he was confused and infused much of the language from the bible that recognizes the Triune nature of God.
The Quran is repleat with the usage of the word "We" with things that are to be attributed to The Allah and it also suggests in many passages that the "We" is in fact attributed to The Allah as well as to Mohammad himself.
This explains the reason that so much of the Quran spoke in terms as a third party because Mohammad had indeed included himself in many of the passages in the Quran and therefore shows that the words contained within were not from "The Allah" but were Mohammad's own words and thoughts.
