In the Army 22nd Regiment (SAS), longest going, best history, toughest selection process, and most of all British. Can't wait to see how many thumbs down I get from the American's for this.
Delta Force send there guys to Hereford for training, what does that say? The SAS are called upon more than any other special forces unit by ironically the US army. They are consulted on Op's by many other nations.
If you are talking of the Navy then of course you have to say the SBS, the naval version of the SAS, and just as hardcore...

Parachute Regiment Pathfinders.
Not noted for their sense of humour, good manners or ability to make a decent cup of tea, but they are first in before the fighting starts.
they are similar in their MO to the Special Forces, and as 58% of the SAS's troopers are sourced from the Paras, it's no wonder why these guys are tough.

the sas is technically not a regiment the sas is basically a diffrent army (brittish speaking). the sas is probably in britain but if you talking regiments its probs the royal regiment of scotland and then the argyll and sutherland highlands cos there infantry. takes alot of balls to be out in the field then to be stuk behind a pc.

Ok folks, the question was about the "ARMY". The "Navy Seals" are "Navy". Also the Rangers and Delta forces fall under the Special Operations command, so they are both considered Special Ops. I would say Delta, then Rangers, then just about any major infantry division on active duty, probably 82nd, 101st, 10th MTN, the Big Red One, 3rd infantry, 4th infantry and so on. Sorry to any I may have forgot. I say this having served with the 82nd, and the 10th MTN.

Army Catering Corps - you've REALLY got to be hard core to put up with all the abuse they take! Oh yes, and any regiment that operates without massive technology backup. Training and overall performance would suggest 22nd Artists Rifles! (ho, ho!!!)

Having served in the US Army, I would have to say Delta Force closely followed by Special Forces and Rangers. These units are rapid deployment units that usually operate behind enemy lines. Each one of these units are para qualified and expert on many small arms and special munitions. However, the key to the success of these units is being able to work as a team. Without the concept of the team, none of these types of units would be effective.

There is a “black stealth” regiment scatter throughout the United States. We don’t know about it for good reason. Its members are recruited from the cream of the top from all branches of the service. If you show ruthlessness and predatory skills, you may be tapped and in a round about way invited to volunteer.
