I have to say that there is nothing wrong with rubbing a little whiskey on a babies gums to ease the pain of teething. It's not like you are filling a bottle and handing it to them. The frozen washcloth worked wonders for my boys. Cold teething rings, baby orajel or anbesol, infants tylenol alternated with infants motrin works well also. But all in all, having patience is key. I know it's hard to deal with a baby that is teething. I have went through it 3 times. Make sure that you take some time out for yourself when you can. It makes things a little easier. Hope that this helps, good luck!!!

It looks to me that everyone has there opinion and you you got allot of answers.
My daughter just rec'd 4teeth at one time. The thing that help the most was Infant Tylenol. For her first 2 it didn't help so much because the one thing nobody tells you is give it to them before they start hurting. Like at night it's probably tougher than any other part of the day give it at 6:30pm if you know she fells asleep around 7pm. Why because it takes about 30min to kick-in. Than follow it with one more dose in the middle of the night. That way she/he will be able to sleep at night. I don't like to but during the day do the same try to beat the pain. It usual occurs around the sometime everyday. But make sure you give it every I believe 5-6 hours. read the bottle. Now not everyday all day. This is good for the day but I recommend night. You don't want her immune to the stuff. Than when she's sick or the next tooth it wont work. Use this for nights that way she can sleep. and be happy in the morning. I hope I helped.

My daughter is getting her 5 and 6th tooth (at the same time) and will break skin I predict sometime this week so I hear you loud and clear. I have used whiskey myself on her gums. But you know what seemed to work like a charm -- putting an ice cube in her mesh feeder and also freezing some of her binkies as well. Good luck.

You should never give whiskey to a child. It works because she is under the influence of alcohol. Yes, she will be cranky. Welcome to parenthood.
My advice is to give her the appropriate dose of Infant's Tylenol that is stated on the packaging to help with pain. Do Not give any more than recommended. Too much Tylenol can cause liver damage.
I also recommend the washcloth in the freezer trick. Take a thin wash cloth, dampen it with water, then tie a knot in the middle, place in a plastic baggie, then freeze. Allow your little girl to chew on the wash cloth once frozen. You can also try frozen, soft pretzels (if you are sure she doesn't have a wheat allergy).
Teething rings with little nubs on them, water filled ones to put in the freezer are also other good choices. You can put any teething ring in the freezer. The coolness will help with the pain.
You can also try orajel for teething babies. Be careful and just use a little bit. If you use too much, they can swallow it and it will numb her throat and cause a choaking hazard.
Holding your daughter, playing soothing music, loving on her are also other non-medicine ways to help relax her.

My daughter was 15 months old before she cut her first tooth. We gave her tylenol or motrin and used orajel. Also this worked for her we took a wash cloth and wet it then stuck it in the freezer. After it had been in there awhile we took it out and let her chew on that the cold and ice seemed to help.

Yeh the Mesh Feeder is awesome!
You can put frozen fruit into it so your baby will be much more inclined to enjoy chewing on it. Not only will it relieve the pain of the teeth coming in, but it also provides vitamins and teaches a baby to chew what they eat.
Good Luck! Teething Sucks!

Erm, try infant paracetamol. It is a lot better than whiskey.
Have your teething been put in the fridge first?
Use a good quality teething gel. I tried using the cheap supermarkets own brands when my daughter was teething, but the best for her was Bonjela.
So put the alcohol in the bin, and use Calpol instead.
Good luck!

I know you said you tried tabs, have you tried Highlands? I hear they work wonders. I personally haven't used them, but I know others that swear by them. Have you tried Orajel? Putting a wet washcloth in the freezer for a few minutes for her to chew on? You can also give her tylenol to help with the pain. Good luck!

have you tried motrin or tylenol? Assuming she has no medical condition that would keep her from taking those medications, you may think about giving them to her...they both come in liquid forms for infants with a dosing guide on the box. Also, have you tried a frozen waffle or washcloth that she can suck on or gum?
Good luck!

have you tried giving her a teaspoon to bite on?
i know it sounds weird and thats what i thought when i first heard it, when my son was cutting his first tooth i gave him one of my spoons to bite in (its metal not plastic like the baby ones)
it doesnt hurt just helps ease the pain of the tooth breaking through and i think it actually helps the gums break too,
and it never made his gums bleed or anything i found it worked really well..
my son is 11 months old nad getting his fourth tooth now
