I am in the market for a new car, out of these two cars, what should I get?

2007 Scion TC - 18k - 161hp

Mazda 3 Sport - 18k - 156h

Scion is a relatively new company, but are made by toyotas. So not sure how reliable they would be.

I am looking for somethign good on gas, but quick.

Get the scion tc, you'll get more for the money.. Mine is fully loaded leather ipod radio and it was 20400.

Get the Scion TC becuase:
The car is made by toyota just renamed for the younger generation (Like Lexus is the Luxary part of toyota)

The car can be fitted with a factory supercharger which gives you close yo 200hp or turbo it out and get to 250hp but there is a lot of after market performand for the tc and very little for the mazda 3

And last but not least the Mazdas have a had a rough time with reliablity (friends experience with previous Mazda 3)

It's a Toyota regardless. I say 5hp difference isn't a make it or break it deal for me.... the one thing that you need to keep in mind with hp is that the M3 is going to weigh more because it's a sedan as opposed to the tc.... so the weight distribution is going to be different. You will probably "feel" more of the tc's hp as opposed to the M3.

Scions are great cars! Toyotas hold their value more than any other car brand. Mazdas are good also..... go for the Mazda if you want a car that you don't see a lot of. tcs are a dime a dozen anymore and Mazdas are nice.

The good thing about tcs is that you can "customize" them the way you want at the dealership so you can finance a lot of upgrades as opposed to buying them little by little with the 3.

I have friends that have had both. I drove a friend of mine's 3 for about a month and I loved it! So roomy (especially since I have a 3 year old) but it's not quite as sporty.

If I may make a suggestion for the best of both worlds... in my opinion, better than both, Subaru Impreza 2.5i

173-hp 2.5-liter SUBARU BOXER engine
166 lb-ft of torque at 4,400 rpm
Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive
MPG: (manual) 22 city / 29 highway^
(automatic) 23 city / 28 highway^
Sport-tuned 4-wheel independent suspension
Sport-design front seats with height-adjustable active head restraints
Leather-wrapped shifter handle
6-way manually adjustable driver’s seat
Rear-center armrest with trunk pass-through
80-watt 4-speaker audio system with single-disc in-dash CD player

and it's 18k also. They are great cars, sporty, quick, and a lot of upgrades that you can do to them.

For 5grand more, you can get the WRX version:

224-hp 2.5-liter DOHC intercooled, turbocharged SUBARU BOXER engine
226 lb-ft of torque at 3,600 rpm
Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive

a lot more car for only 5k more!

good luck in whatever you choose! :)

I'm guessing you're from high school to college age, and if so you are probably going to need more space. since the Mazda is a hatcback that is going to help, but consider this:mazda is owned by Ford, and Scion is a Toyota brand. mazdas are known to be slow and unreliable to a degree. Also, the scion has looks over it and would be easier to resell. I'd go with the Scion.

One of my friends drove both and he bought the Mazda 3 because he didn't like the Scion driving. My friend told me that he bought the Mazda because it drove like a real car while the Scion drove like a toy car.
It is your money and choice, but I have driven the Mazda and it is really good, and at least you have extra doors.
