Because it addles the brain:
From the Miami Herald Crime Journal:
"Three Australians illegally living in Bostwick were arrested Saturday for breaking into a storage shed belonging to a fourth immigrant in an attempt to steal 36 cases of 'Vegemite'...."
From the Tuscaloosa Tablet:
"Two local men, recently returned from a vacation in Australia, were found dead yesterday after an apparent duel over ownership of the last jar of 'Vegemite', an antipodean condiment they brought back with them..."

In October 2006, the Melbourne Herald Sun reported that Vegemite is banned in the USA, with Customs officials going so far as to even search Australians for Vegemite when they enter the country, but later reports cast doubt on the claim. The Food and Drug Administration later stated there was no import ban on Vegemite, and that it was never pulled from American supermarket shelves.
