As long as I stay away from sugar and use substitutes I'm fine...But the minute I eat candy bars, ice cream or whatever, I start to sweat, body swells and my sinuses act up...

Most of the sweets are chocolate and chocolate cake is the worst!...

Sugar may have an effect of raising the glycemic index of the body, which in turn controls the glucose level in the blood. The glycemic index is a fairly complex meal planning tool, and the fact that people's blood glucose can react differently to so-called "low" and "high" glycemic index. So there may be a link there. This may result in unhealthy responses. I get a headache if I eat too much sugar. You might have other responses.
I have also heard of reactions to artificial sweetners.

An allergy is an immune response to a food. Symptoms include things like hives, swelling, and trouble breathing. A damaging immune response by the body to a substance to which it has become hypersensitive. Diabetes is an endocrine disorder. It is NOT an allergy. People use the term "allergy" incorrectly all the time. It is unlikely that anyone has a true allergy to sugar. Most of the time it is a food sensitivity or intolerance which is not the same thins as an allergy.

Yes, diabetes. The pancreas can't produce insulin and cannot control sugar levels.

There are also many people allergic to artificial sweetners, which have been linked to heart problems and other ailments.

You're probably allergic to chocolate. Why do you keep eating it if it makes you feel like crap?

I have heard of someone being allergic to glucose. They could use frutose in cooking instead.
