You can travel back but you need a good reason. It depends also on what situation the country is at. Is it safe for you to return?
Best is to see your foreign embassy.

If you mean is it legal, I would think the answer is probably yes. A person coming to the US with an asylum situation gets a "Green Card" ie becomes a legal resident, I think would have no restrictions in going to any country he wanted to travel to and was allowed by our government. Now, if you are being persecuted by that country and you ran for your life (asked for asylum) then it would probably not be a good idea to go back to the cave where the devil was chasing you. Well, maybe some people might, just to see "whatzzup". Cubans are allowed to go back to Cuba, many do to see family members. I'm not sure you can go directly from the US, but you can go if you stop at another country first (I think). State Department would be a good place to ask if you really want to know and go.

zoe is correct. my ex came from a war torn nation that we still do not have diplomatic ties. that is one key part. if we do not allow tralel there you could be in trouble example. cuba.
also, that nation may also have restriction on you returning.
to learn more go to www.travel.state.gov and read up on the www.uscis.gov immigration rules and regs.
most people who get asylum rarely go back. it is to dangerous. if it was not dangerous the us govt would have denied your green card.
