Why does it worry people so much that humans probably have no purpose whatsoever? Why should we have anymore purpose than a blade of grass?

we are to gain as much wisdom and knowledge as possible and pass this on to others before we leave this plane of existence so mankind might be a little bit better off for us being here

I'm not a religious person but I believe that everything on this planet has evolved to have some sort of purpose. If it weren't for the plants such as grass we would have no oxygen. True the plant did not evolve purposefully with the intent to provide us oxygen but the complete interdependent evolution of everything does mean that even the smallest thing fills a role in the development of the whole. Beyond this we humans have the gift of being evolved enough to create and determine our own purposes in life. Or not, its a choice.

If life has no purpose, what is the point of living? You are born. You live for a while. You die. You would be better off being a blade of grass. At least you wouldn't be sitting there, peacefully soaking up the sun and then suddenly overtaken with the fear that you would be dead on e day.
Does it not strike you as odd that we seem to be the only living creatures capable of contemplating our own mortality? How does that help us survive? Where in our genetic history did evolution slip that one in?

i believe people cannot come to terms with there own insignifcance therefore they make up belief systems to stop themselfs going crazy

if i had you in room with a dog and the man who could cure cancer and held a gun pointed at you and said choose you would choose the dog. but why. if the man then goes on to cure cancer the human population gets yet another boost which the world cannot sustain which causes massive world wars and destruction and suffering on an unprecedented scale. even if you new this beforehand why would you still choose the dog

I find a sort of freedom in my conclusion that their is no unifying purpose to human existence. I'm free to choose my purpose for myself, sometimes on a day by day basis. But I guess there are people out there who need to be told what to do by a higher authority in order to feel secure in their course of action. Whether or not their higher authority is real and if these people are in state on denial is yet to be seen. The way I see it, God is fictitious and/or unknowable, but I don't need him.

Everyone was created for a unique purpose according to you giftings and talents.
Many people don't bother to ask God to show them what it is.
The world would be a better place and much more productive if we all did that.
There wouldn't be as many hurting people with so many needs.
Also, families would be a lot stronger.

If I have no more purpose than a blade of grass then I pray God take me home right now because if there is no point to this all I would rather be in Heaven.

Perhaps our purpose in life is to serve as a warning to others.

dunno. but to the blade of grass, i'm sure it's existence is fulfilling and fabulous. the "why are we here?" question never seemed as big as the "we are here" statement.

i'ma be like a blade of grass and blow around in the wind and feed a cow or a caterpillar and enjoy every damn moment.
