If you damaged your vocal cords, can they heal or will they stay like that forever? I think i might have a few months ago when i went to an amusement park and screamed very loudly on this one rollarcoaster. When i came off it, my throat was sore and i lost my voice. Would that have left permanent damage on my vocal chords?

Is there any way i can help them heal if they are able to heal?

If you take care of your vocal cords, they will not be perminantly damaged. ONLY talk when you need to for a few weeks and drink plenty of water. Your vocal cords will heal.

If you continued to use your voice after that, it is possible there is permanent damage. If something like a blood vessel burst (which is likely when you scream) - then when it healed, it could have left a callous on your cords. If you have noticed trouble singing or talking, lots of hoarseness, or you are unable to sing certain notes, I would get to a doctor immediately. They may put you on vocal rest. (Sometimes as long as two weeks in order to heal.) Sometimes surgery is an option. If you are singing fine now and not having any problems, then no, you probably did not damage them or at least if you did, they have recovered. Don't scream! :)

PS: If they are able to heal, it probably means no talking for quite a long time. No whispering or whistling - these are harder on your cords than actually talking. No sound whatsoever. That and lots of fluids are the best things you can do for your voice. Seriously, though, if you are still having trouble and you are serious about singing, you need to see a doctor.

From something like that, they'll heal. Try to limit talking until your voice comes back. Maybe a warm towel on your throat to relax the muscles would help too (just guessing here). A few months is a long time though, you might want to see a doctor.

You can heal your vocal cords by swallowing a spoonful of honey each day or using two drops of peppermint oil. Also, drink tea instead of coffee and try soy milk instead of actual milk, real milk coats your throat and makes it impossible to talk or sing.
