Im 45 and type 2 diabetic and get it all the time. I walk mine off. Keeping my legs warm helps a bit but not much else helps. Not even OTC medications.
If you are getting cramp on exercize see a doctor ASAP as this could be a serious problem, but cramp on resting is medically OK (but painful!!).

My next birthday will be 60, so I guess I fall in the "getting older" category, although I don't know too many people getting any younger, do you?

I used to have horrible leg cramps almost every morning until I learned to break up my sleep period into smaller segments. I now nap for a couple of hours not long after dinner, then get up about 10 or 11 and stay up until 2 or 3. Then I'm up again about 6. I not only avoid the cramps which come from laying still too long, but I seem to need less sleep total. Five to six hours total per night is enough for me with this pattern.

I am not diabetic but I do get leg cramps because of my job..which I am always on my feet...the doctor recommended Quinine tablets. It is a prescription but not a narcotic and it really helps.

Make sure you get enough potassium and calcium. Make sure you exercise, and warm up you muscles before you stretch them.
