This is something I am considering as a career because I am interested in OCD and phobias. I want to expose people to what they fear... thus behavior therapy.

Can a psychologist or psychiatrist provide behavior therapy? Or is there a specific behavior therapist that people are referred to? I want to go to med school and become a psychiatrist and work with people with OCD and phobias.... I was just wondering if a psychiatrist can do that

sorry, i can't answer your question, but i would think that that would be a really good field to go into. i mean, i would love to be able to get over my huge huge fear of heights! and i have a friend who might benefit from behavior therapy in terms of her mental tendencies.

psychiatrists follow the medical model, mainly prescribe medication.

Psychologist follow the medical model too, they dont prescribe pills (at least not in Canada, maybe some in the US do) but work more on therapy in the form of talk thereapy, cognitive therapy and behaviour therapy. Some psychiatrists do therapy as well.
