WOW, is this a back yard mechanic forum or what? Where do they come from?
You have bearing failure in the differential! Depending on how serious the damage is, you may need to replace the entire housing. However, if it is salvageable, the cost would depend on the style rear you have such as limited slip, positraction, etc! You are probably looking in upwards of $1500 plus to rebuild that rear.
A $500 junk yard special might not be any better than what you have and once paid for, you own it! It is ok for a housing if the junk yard rear has not been seized however, why would you go through all of that expense and not rebuild it? That would be a total waste of money if the replacement rear failed in a couple of days also!
I recommend pulling the differential cover and inspecting the damage to see exactly where you stand. If rebuildable, I estimate $1500 give or take! If not rebuildable, then a junk yard housing rebuilt is going to be closer to the $2000 area! I'm talking about someone who knows what they are doing and can set it up correctly, not these back yard mechanics that think you just bolt stuff in and you're good to go! Doesn't work that way with rears!

Did you have your E-brake on? you have most likely cooked the rear end on the truck. Does the truck move at all now that it has sat and cooled off a bit? If so, call the tow truck and have them take you too your mechanic. DO NOT DRIVE IT! if it still moves the back is not seized up yet and may be able to be repaired for a good cost. You may get lucky and just need to have the fluid changed and your good. other wise when he gets in there he may have to replace the whole thing. diff's out of wrecking yards are around 75 to 300. then the labor to change them out. Most shop rates are around 60 to 75 an hour and it's a 4 to 6 hour job depending on how rusted everything is under the truck. so plan on a hefty bill if it needs to be replaced.

buy a used rear end, usually 100 bucks or so and installed at about the same price depending on labor in your area. it sounds like you left the e brake on. if you didnt cook the rear end you deffinatly cooked the brakes in a bad way.
