Hmm its not 'strictly' the York area but if you really want to treat him try Oulton Hall near Wakefield/Leeds, its 5 star all the way, i've stayed there a few times, they even valet park your car for you :)

I stayed in one just outside of York in Fulford it was really nice four poster bed, nice restaurant. Its called the york pavillion hotel if you search it in google you can see pics of it.
