a few months ago i found out that my windows xp wasn't genuine,so i bought one,installed it,put all the key numbers in,so far so good,
the problem iv now got is that:-
when we got the genuine disk we got a letter with all the important numbers needed to put in when installing,BUT my hubby has thrown it away (stupid i know)how do i retreive these numbers,obviously there very important,

Linkymon,on the back of the disk box there is a "certificate of authenticity",but its hard to make out all the numbers,its very small numbers

I KNOW,the only problem iv got is that i didnt buy the pc from a shop,i had some build it for me.

Follow this link, intall the software,. It will tell you evrything about your computer, including your windows product key. write down the key & uninstall the software. Sorted.

try using a legit program such as Belarc Advisor - it shows product keys also. BTW - very often the product key produced by such programs will be the OEM key used during installation (Dell's are a case in point) and may not "pass muster". You can always call the mfg of a computer, give them the identifying info for a computer they built (eg - serial number) and they will provide you with a valid OS key.

Did you put the authenticity sticker on your PC with the serial number?? If you didn't....you have to buy another one.

Call Microsoft if you registered your copy when you installed it they will give you all the info you need.
