You are lucky that such people don't want to come in to your yard.. Your dog is doing it's job, by just being there!
I am a Christian person, and have never heard of any breed referred to as the 'devil dog'

Some of my family members don't want to come in to my house, because of all the dogs..they are afraid they might get hair on themselves..Oh, well, I consider myself lucky...the people that do come are my loved ones...

DEVIL DOGS who thought of that pit bulls are not mean we are getting a puppy from this breeder and the stud (dad) was given coke meth and other drugs but none of the PUPPIES ARE MEAN!!!! they are the nicest dogs in the world and have never been given this reputation for being so mean anyone who has never had a pit bull should not answer this question because they have never experience something like this!!! My newborn pit bull puppy Maggie, was called a devil dog and i have hated that person ever since they said that about a newborn puppy. Same concept with a baby..... lets say that you are giving birth and the father says that the baby is going to be a phyco when he or she grows up PEOPLE STEREOTYPE look it up in the dictionary and you will get some pretty good definitions!!!

The term first gained prominence around June 24, 1918 after the battle of Belleau Wood. The U.S.Marines fought with such tenacity that the Germans referred to them as "devil dogs" or Teufelshund. There is some controversy over this, but anyone that has ever fought against a Marine is either dead or will agree. I`ve "heard" that the Japanese called the Doberman a "devil dog" during WW2.

The woman was not saying this simply because she was a Christian, she was saying it because Pit Bulls were bred as fighting dogs. They have locking jaws, so when they bite you, they aren't going to let go. They are also often very aggressive. I do not believe that it is the dog's fault, but Pit Bulls are not bred to be nice family dogs. I hope that your dogs are not mean, and have a good temperment, but most Pits don't.

You don't have a devil dog, you just have a dog with a long line of fighting.
Hope this answers your question.

because people are uneducated and pit bulls have a stigma brought on by society. try to understand though that even someone that knows that not all pit bulls are dangerous may be leery simply because they do not trust that the owner knows what they are doing. it take a certain kind of person to be able to own and train these dogs. perhaps there are other reasons though. do your dogs bark, growl, snarl or in any way act intimidating to passersby?

For the a lot of you people who have answered. If you nothing of the APBT breed ,please don't answer. Misinformed people will believe the misinformation which is extremely wrong ,such as saying that the APBT has locking jaws. There's nothing in this breeds jaw that makes them extra special where the jaws lock. It's impossible. They are strong and tenecious.Saying that this breed doesn't make good family pets. This is again you people who fall into media spreading misinformation. This breed was bred to give it's all to humans .This is why you can get these dogs to do just about anything you want them to do.Their love and desire to please humans.People who are afraid to come into your yard don't deserve to come into your yard. That's the way I look at it. I have people who wont come over because of my 2 girls. It's like oh well ,you don't deserve to come over.Don't let ignorant people bother you. They are not worth it.

They have a bad reputation due to all the media attention they get. I'm surprised you're allowed to have 8 dogs, there is a by-law in my area, I can only have 3.

I see "SOME" pit owners don't do anything to help the stereotype either. It's ashame.

Pit bulls dont have a good reputation. They are natural born and bred fighters and even today they are still used for illegal dog fighting. Plus the fact you have eight is an extra factor... most people are afraid of even one... they wont come near you with eight in your garden.

Here is my opinion. Because of a couple badly breed, badly trained dogs people have become afraid of dogs of this breed. These dogs look scary and tend to do more damage when they bite because of lock jaw, they have gotten alot of media attention. In my experience, small cute dogs tend to more aggressive but they do not get the hype. Think about it. If your husband came home and said I was just attacked by a Chihuahua would you suck him up at all!?!?

They're called devil dogs because most are known as an aggressive breed.I suppose their reputation has a lot to do with it also.Would never have this breed around children.
