The latter. Let's separate this into two crimes:
#1.) Murder
#2.) Sexual Assault or Violation of a corpse
Aggrevated sexual assault carries a higher penalty than sexual violation of a corpse. Therefore, technically, sexual assault and murder would be worse.
But violation of the corse would be more gross. hehe

I have been attacked by a rapist and I got away (more likely he got away) with my 8 fingers and my left knee slashed.
Offenders sexually violating the corpse sounds more sick to me, but at the same time, sexually assaulting prior to murdering is worse to victims.
It's best these things being stopped before it happens.

In the state of Florida, murder, if premeditated (malice aforethought) is a capital offense, meaning that the guilty can be put to death. Sexual battery (our criminal section for rape) can only be carried out on a live person. Abusing a corpse does not carry the same sanctions as sexual battery. Very good legal question, though I hope I am not doing your homework...

Well it's worse for the victim for you to sexually violate and then murder because it's 2 things they'll have to go through. If you murder them first then they won't be physically aware of the sexual violation.

Although they are both pretty bad, I think doing it with a corpse is the winner in that race.

After the death. Although its disrespectful to the dead, their soul has already passed to the other side, so if they are in heaven they are no longer in grief or pain. Then its just your perversion (not yours personally)
Its worse in my eyes to rape someone and let them live than to rape them and then kill them.
There is something wrong with everyone, somehow.

They actually hold about the same amount of penalties. It is a crime to have sex with a corpse just as it is a crime to rape somebody.
