First, check with your MD to make sure it isn't glandular, medication or otherwise. If the weight is due to poor eating habits, there is help. I was also in the Army and used to eating 7000 calories a day. I was also humping 20 miles, so all was used. After the Army, I didn't know any other way to eat, so I continued to eat the way I used to, and put on 100 lbs in a couple of years. I managed to make a change. Here's how:

First off, stop lying to your friends. Infact, don't tell them anything as it is none of their bussiness. Besides, you'll feel better if the complement is ttrue instead of a lie.

Next, Stop eating carbs for the next month. Period. (it doesn't mean stop eating, just stop eating certain things - if you're hungry, eat more of what you can eat) Read labels, watch what you eat. Eat chicken, beef, pork, eggs, salad, veggies. Skipping the carbs for 1 month will help you drop 10-20 lbs. You will notice a difference after a couple of weeks.

After the first month, allow yourself 10 grams of carbs per day. Start walking. Even if it's only 5 minutes a day. Every day. If you can do 5 today, do 6 tomorrow.

In the 3rd month, allow yourself 20 grams of carbs per day and 1 cheat day where you c an eat anything. Enjoy that day. Be firm on the other 6. You should be walking 30 minutes every day by now. Try to work up to more time.

You can continue this pattern until you reach the desired weight you want to be. You should be losing 2-4 lbs. per week. Weigh yourself every week religiously and keep track of it. Drink 2 liters of water a day.

Don't get discouraged. It's like basic training. The first few days, you didn't think you'd ever make it. The last few days, you were proud you did, excited about what you accomplished and amazed at how fast time flew!

Best of luck.

The best thing is to take small steps. It sounds like what you are eating has a lot of carbs, which is not necessarily good if you're not getting a lot of exercise.

I would recommend having toast or oatmeal and fruit or yogurt for breakfast. Oatmeal is very filling - but you need fruit too.

For lunch - again, pick something filling but small with an emphasis on fruits and veggies.

Don't skimp on dinner, but be respectful of fat contents and calories.

The easiest way to get started with exercise - both my sister and I did it - is by walking. Maybe the first day you will only walk around the block - maybe even the first week. But - getting out, getting the fresh air, you'll start to feel better. Slowly build up the amount you walk - and make sure you buy some good shoes.

Don't do anything drastic - no drastic diets, no drastic exercise. You simply need to burn more calories than you are taking in and make those incoming calories healthy. Also, drink plenty of (but not too much - not more than 8-8oz glasses) of water a day. Water will help you feel full - and is very good for regulating your body.

Good luck!

wow. is your kid in school yet and do you work? do you have time to join a gym / ladies workout center like Curves or Workout Express?? These are only 30 minutes/day. Also, just walking (or stroller walking if your kid will sit) is great exercise.
As far as eating- I think you need to eat more, AND more often to INCREASE your metabolism (5-6 small meals/day)- veges, protein, fruit, whole grains.
Keep in mind that you don't want to lose more than 5 pounds per MONTH or 1-2/week , as more loss than that is not healthy. You want to be healthy, not just lighter. Just remember, you didn't gain it overnight, so it will take time to come off, but it will eventually. Keep the faith and good luck!

You said you told friends that you lost weight to hear their congratulations--it sounds like you need a lot of moral support. Because of this, I suggest joining WeightWatchers (www.weightwatchers.com), or any weight loss group or program. This way, you can talk and share tips and learn new things from the other members, and get moral support for losing weight as well. Plus, it's not a drastic diet; and you don't have to starve yourself.

You can monitor your weight loss/gain and gather with a group of like-minded people (who are determined to lose weight, embarassed about their weight, etc) every week. WeightWatchers encourages you to eat lots of vegetables and fruit, and protein, and comes with delicious low-calorie food that's both nutritious and tasty. Oh, and don't forget to exercise. ;)

You might also get inspiration from the participants on NBC's The Biggest Loser. Good luck!

You might think about trying this book called "The Movie Star Diet" by Steve Simmons. It helped me lose thirty pounds in 2 1/2 months when I didn't think anything would work. My goal to begin with was only 20 lbs! It has a really easy plan to follow and an excellent workout as well.

Don't beat yourself up! A c-section kills your stomach, and also your ability to tone that lower stomach muscle. Plus your metabolism drops enormously after a child. My sis had a c-section and went from small to ... well, not so small. The only thing that worked for her was tons of exercise, diets didn't do anything. I think you need to get yourself a positive support group. Don't feel like it's your fault. Any task like this one needs good caring support all the way, no matter how many pounds you lose.

You really shouldn't not eat, you are just damaging you body by doing that. Just eat small portions and exercise 3 or 4 times a week of about 20 minutes. That should help and if it doesn't talk to your doctor or a nutritionist. Good Luck!
