Some was good, some not so good. My high school had a soup & salad deal with an acceptable salad bar, so I got that most days. The only hot meal I can actually recall was the chili. They made a pretty good chili. I had to take in my own Tabasco sauce.
As for pizza-I always liked it in elementary school, but when I got to junior high/middle school, I stopped liking it, even though it was the same thing.

nope ours was really really good. The school had an account with Pizza Hut to deliver 20 hot pan pizzas cut in large slices to sell at lunch time. There was pizza every day in addition to other choices. It was like a food court - different lines for different stuff.
My favorite days for lunch were the "bar" days. We had nacho bar, pasta bar, potato bar - you would get the main ingredient on a big tray (nachos, hamburger, hotdog, pasta or potato) and you would get to pick the toppings from all the different choices. LOVED IT!

I've been out of school for 11 years. Back then the food was pretty bad. The school was small K-12 in one building. There was no choices on food items. They served one meal, like it or not. The meat was normally mystery meat. Everything tasted about the same. I would take my lunch as much as possible.

pizza day was the best. Mystery meat was the worst! I always loved the corn too. Hated the peas and carrots mix.
Our school meals back in 197... were like tv dinners and heated at the high school and trucked to our school where they were reheated in "the brand new state of the art convection ovens"

I remember in Elementary school we had great school lunches! Our lunch ladies would come in early in the morning to make everything from scratch! (We had a small school though) Then I moved to a more populated city in middle school, and the lunches were horrible! High School wasn't too bad though...we had a lot of choices, even a nacho bar, where you could make your own nachos or giant burrito! :)

Ours was terrible! The pizza crust was like bread, not really that dense chewy delicious stuff anywhere else. There was no flavor whatsoever. I kind of remember the burritos and spaghetti being pretty good though.

I think it was okay. I alternated between hot lunch, bagged lunch and the salad bar (junior high.) I even did the same for high school. It all depended on what was listed on the school menu and what choices I had.
