>>"Do you think we are mentally so far behind God that we cannot possibly understand what he does even if given an explanation? "<<
I do not think that this is the case. God gave us the capability to understand far more than most people think.
we can't truly "comprehend" true infinity, but with some skill and effort, we can grasp a snippet of it in a microcosmic sense.
>>" Why is so little revealed to us?"<<
imagine it like this... you have a book page. theres regular plain printing, but "behind" that, is a printing in say... ultraviolet colors or something like that (yes, I know that doesn't entirely make sense, but bear with me) that most people can't see, but some, with a special gift for that sort of sight, would be able to see, at least sometimes.
alot more is out there to be observed and seen than most people think as well.
>>"Why must God work in mysterious ways?"<<
I think what most perceive or categorize as this, is simply a degree of the "plan" being larger and more complex than your average person can wrap their head around.
I mean if each minor, trivial mundane event is metaphorically a degree of a gear turn in a process and sequence of events that lasts 1000 years or something... while in the greater scheme of the function that event might be very natural, logical, and rational. simply a function of things. ... but from something that got caught in that gear-turn and had its world turned upside down by it... its simply not going to be able to fathom the function of that event in the greater scheme.
>>"If we are like children to him and cannot understand that his intentions for us are for our own good, then when do we grow up? "<<
after many lives, as we grow, learn to observe and see more of what it is, and how things work, the "growing up" is called Ascention. people like Buddha, and Jesus, and some others have been notable human examples of people who've "finished" and "grown up"

Our relationships with our children here on earth does, in some ways, parallel God's relationship with His children. The love shown by parents towards their children is one example, another would be the parents duty to help the child grow up to be a responsible human being whom people will respect.
God is far beyond us. He is a Spirit and we're in the flesh. He's divine, we're not. He's the creator and author of life itself and we're just His creation. He made the mother/father/child relationship to show us, in a way, His own idea of sustaining a loving, compassionate bond between the created and the creator.

As children we have all the responsibility and parents have all the authority. We as children want to make the rules. We want to be taken care of but not be told what to do. The true test of parenting is raising a child in righteousness. The ideal would be to have them move from taking responsibility and sharing authority to having all the authority and owning the responsibility.

yes. God made the universe.
How would a baby know to walk unless they saw it done over and over, so they could follow that persons example. In that way, God gives us an example that we should look 2 God as we look 2 our parents. Parents have the task of raising thei kids in a godly manner. Not all parents are perfect, however

good thinking as this has been an example of the relationship I have used as the regulars know. we are incapable of understanding GOD because we are so limited in what wisdom and knowledge we can comprehend. perhaps when we die we move on to a somewhat higher level of learning working our way stage by stage until we reach a semblance of understanding.

i suppose if you're in need of an omnipotent father figure to make you feel secure in your life then the parallel is valid to you but i can't, for all logic, understand how folks can feel secure believing in and trusting an abusive father figure as the one portrayed in the Bible. the Bible god plays favorites, sows discord between brothers and nations, will punish you forever, plays "prove you love me" games, throws horrible world ending temper tantrums, is misogynous, creates evil and calamity, sends evil spirits and delusions, kills innnocent babies, encourages genocide and torture, condones slavery, requires blood sacrifice, enjoys the smell of burnt offerings and the blood of his own son ... the list of nasty characteristics go on and on and yet somehow millions of people call on this invisible monster for love and mercy. **shrug** with a father like that i rather be an orphan.

As Phillip Henslowe, Geoffrey Rush's character in Shakespeare in Love, put it, "It's a mystery."

because we don't have the knowledge of God. we are not as smart as Him and we never will be. God is all-knowing, we're in search of knowledge. and yes: us adults to God equals kids to adults. kids are not retarded, they just need guidance and discipline just like adults do too.
