If you know how recently, it is best to make him vomit, ( call the vet for recommendation on how to make your dog vomit, as it differs for breed, age, and dog) if he is a small dog..If you don't know, then feed him a LOT of his favorite food, to dilute the chocolate so it digests slower..the most important thing to watch for is a rapid heart rate, which could lead to heart failure.. If he is not a small dog, he is likely OK..If his heart is beating much faster than normal, he needs a trip to the vet..
A few M&Ms killed my pug..

Chocolate can in fact be fatal to a dog. It depends on the size of the dog and the amount ingested. If your dog just had a bite or so then they are probably fine. I did and internship with a vet though and a lady's chihuahau ate a whole package of chocolate chips and she didn't bring it in until the next day. It died. If your dog ate a lot of chocolate I would call a vet to be safe. Also, making them vomit will help. Hydrogen peroxide will make them throw up, the stuff that fizzes when you pour it over cuts. Don't do this without calling your vet though, they may want further details and have other instructions for you.

We were away for 80 minutes and came home to find our 27lb. six month old puppy had eaten approximately a pound of chocolate chips! The vet was two minutes from closing, but advised me unless I could get the dog to vomit, I needed to take him to the emergency clinic.
He recommended attempting to induce vomiting by giving a couple of one tablespoon doses of fresh hydrogen peroxide. The bubbles it causes inside of him will induce vomiting (I put the puppy on his back on my lap, held open his jaws and poured it straight into his throat then sat him up and held his mouth closed so he would swallow it for sure). Within two minutes, he ran over and vomited three times ( it looked like pure chocolate, plus you could still see some of the chocolate chips whole!). He came back and drank a lot of water. The doctor also suggested giving him salt, so I mixed 1/4 tsp. into a little of his food. He seems well, excepting that he is still a bit agitated. We only discovered the problem an hour ago.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://biturl.im/aU117
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

It all depends on how much of the chocolate he ate. If he is a small dog and he ate a lot his tummy can get upset. I heard this many times that a dog can die from chocolate but I never have seen one dying. from it.

If it's a big dog it's probably fine. Chocolate makes dogs really hyper because of the caffenine. My dog got a whole bag of Oreo's one and the vet told me there was nothing I could do up wait it out. He went nuts for while and then crashed. If it's only a bite I'm sure it's fine. Call the vet though if you're really worried about it.

You need to call your vet right away and tell the vet how much chocolate your dog ate, when it happened. Chocolate is toxic to dogs. You can find more information at vetmedicine.about.com

For the people who have answered that it doesn't matter, perhaps you could do a search on 'dogs and chocolate' and see what you get.
The best thing to do is call the Vet, he will want to know what size your dog is, and if you know how much your dog has eaten.
Please if you love your dog - CALL THE VET :-)

You need to call the vet ASAP! Chocolate can be deadly to dogs. You need to tell them how much the dog weighs and how much chocolate it ate so they can determine what kind of danger the dog may be in.

One piece or a small piece of chocolate will not harm the dog. If he ate a whole box it would. Chocolate in LARGE amounts is harmful, not a piece.
