A 200 lb woman who did intense pilates for 30 minutes would burn 141 calories.

You have to burn 3500 calories to lose 1 pound, so it would take 25 days to lose just 1 pound.

Diet is a faster way.

If you're looking for a workout that burns calories (enough to keep you in shape or lose weight) Pilates is NOT the way to go.

It will tone you up somewhat though, if you get a good program and do it right. Other things work so much better in my opinion though.

You can't burn calories unless you are sweating and doing vigorous cardio. Pilates and Yoga are basically intense stretching that relaxes muscles, strengthens, and makes you appear leaner. A good diet and cardio with pilates can burn more calories.

Pilates burns so few calories that, effectively, it is comparable to walking at a normal pace. It does help to strengthen your core muscles, though, which can help with your overall calorie burn.
