Should undocumented aliens be given amnesty or asylum because they have a "credible fear" of returning to their country and the CF is that they are too poor and just seeking a better life?

Shouldn't they just be removed from the US or given a voluntary departure in lieu of formal removal?

I don't think fear of poverty can be used as a creditable reason for asking for asylum..There are a few figures that say that a large percentage of the illegal aliens were employed in their home country before coming to the US.
The process of a voluntary departure date would be effective for a quite a few.Coupled with the statement that if they stayed and were apprehended that they would never qualify for legal residence here. After a reasonable time period the formal/forced removal would be instituted.
The thought of a full scale blanket amnesty,is unthinkable to most legal Americans.
There are millions of legal Americans that live at or below the federal poverty level.

Good question - but I don't quite understand what you mean by, "voluntary departure."

There are, undoubtedly, a large percentage of illegal immigrants who fit the discription of those you refer to in your question. These honest, law abiding, hard working people came here with no other intentions than to try and make a better life for their families. If these people represented the vast majority, this problem would not be the important issue that it is.

Unfortunately, there are also a large number who have no interest whatsoever in becoming an American citizen or even trying to learn the language or customs. They are here to exploit the system for all it's worth with no regard at all to any detriment they may cause.

And that is not the intention of any immigration or naturalization system.

The United States has a finite amount of resources. It is totally unfair to the millions of immigrants who have come here legally to seek a better life and to become a proud American citizen to simply ignore their efforts and give amnesty to those who chose to start their venture into America by illegally entering the country.

It is a complex problem made far more complex by "anchor baby" laws. The United States wants and needs immigrants who will enhanse the diversity of our country - we do not, however, want or need immigrants who demand, not equal status, but special status, because they feel it is their "right" to expect all of the benefits of our social services and our obligation to accomidate their language with multi-lingual interpretation of everything public.

When they march in protest, place their flag above America's and generally critisize the United States - it's high time they get booted out and made to fix the corruption, living conditions and poverty in their own damn country - after they do that, their grievances may have a little more validity.

They should be granted amnesty if proven to be working, paying taxes and not a burden on society, but not because they are afraid to go home!!

They broke the law. NO amnesty. If they want things better in their country's, then fight for it like we did. Geesh!
