You would think he is starved the way he eats but we feed him plenty and he is at a healthy weight. Anything he can chew he will eat. How can I make him stop? We've given him rawhide chews but he has them devoured in 2 minutes. He chews them until they are soft and then swallows them whole! I think he is crazy!

How much time do you people think I have? I'm not going to follow my dogs around the yard every time they are outside to spray the poo or scoop it up right away. They are outside by themselves whenever I have to go anywhere.

Ok, why they do it is unknown - the good news! - it is a simple fix! Go to a health food store or maybe your local grocery store and buy some MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) - sprinkle this over your dog's food (both dogs) and that should stop it. For some reason, the MSG makes the poop taste bad and they will stop! Good Luck!

Both my Lab and German Shepherd do that with the rawhides. About the poop thing...I would try buying this stuff called Bitter Apple and spray it on the other dogs poo. It makes things sour and makes dogs stop chewing on things. Not sure if it will work on poo but my Lab used to chew up a lot of things and we used the burnik's bitter apple to get her to stop. It's available at most pet stores and I know Wal Mart has it too...Good luck

I bought a product from the Vet, called "Forbid", you sprinkle it on the dogs food, and apparently supposed to make the poo taste bad. (as if it doesn't taste bad already)

This didn't work, but, I've heard other people have had success with it.

I had to walk around the yard with the dog on a leash, and when he went to eat the other dogs' poo, I pulled him back, and scolded him loudly. "NO"

I don't know if that worked, or he grew out of it. Good Luck, it's a real icky habit.

Um, firstly, how does your lab get to your other dogs poo? Don't you pick it up? I don't want to sound like I'm being offensive to you, sorry. Also, careful but persitent training might help. I have a beagle who basically eats anything as well, but, basically I just hide all his food until it's his meal time and stuff, and I only give him treats when he has done something which is usually a hassle for him, like coming when I call him, this is usually a huge effort on his part lol.
Hope I helped

well first of all keep him on a leash outside so you can pull him away before he eats the poo
then buy a handy dandy pooper scooper and clean up the poop
and for your chewing problem.. get a plastic bone designed for strong chewers (not rawhide) like a galileo. thats the kind my dog uses and even then he reduces them to a little stub in a few months..

increase the protein content in his food. lab puupies are high energy dogs-get him a high energy food with more protein. the protein content in cat food is more than 30%, that is why dogs eat cat poop from the litter box. Odds are, the dogs whose poop he is salivating over have a higher protein count in their food and he is craving it. Also, if he is chewing everything up, try roasting him some soup bones in gravy and letting him work one of those for a while. It sounds like the little guys is teething somethin awful. Soup bones can be purchased right at the meat counter in your grocery store. My local store even saves the ham bones for me, as a treat for my Panda.
