Can you join the army with a small record. I have a charge of destruction of personal property on my record.

The army often goes back and forth on standards regarding tolerance for petty criminal history. They also change back and forth on issues like requiring a high school diploma versus a GED.

A recruiter is the best source for you to ask. Recruiters also work hard to look for exceptions as well to help get you in. For example, where their aggravating or mitigating circumstnaces, how old where you, how long ago did this happen, etc.

My hunch is that you'll be ok, but check with the recruiter.

If worse comes to worse here's a nifty trick you can try. Go to the prosecuting attorneys office and ask if they would be willing to approach the judge to change the status on that case so you can serve your country. Even if they say no, try contacting the judge through the clerk of courts. They might help you out if you have stayed out of trouble and enough time has elapsed.

Best of luck to you. Keep your nose clean from here on out, and if you make it into the army thank you for serving. Good for you for having an interest in serving too.

Yes, I was in the Army. Two guys I knew while I was in joined instead of serving jail time. This was during the Vietnam years. Things may have changed but doubt it.

Yes,with misdemeanor no with a felony,This also depends on what your punishment is like probation? Check with your recruiter in some cases Ive heard of courts dropping a probation for those who join the military, but just a warning It is not a easy way out!

You'll probably have to get a waiver signed, but for one count of destruction of property * which is probably a misdem. *

All they do is pull up the police record, show the fines were paid, time served...whatever.

And the commander will DEFINATELY sign the waiver.
and bang,you're in..

I joined the Air Force in 1987. At that time your record had to be squeaky clean. I think you should speak to a recruiter. Most recruiters will do whatever they can to get you in.

You would have to speak with a recruiter. I joined in 1991 and at that time you couldn't have anything on your record.

When I was drafted, criminals were sentenced to the Army as an alternative to jail (1968).

they are really concerned with felonies and then it really depends on the class. Good luck to you in the military. I have met several members with some minor misdemeanors when I was in the army.

I should think at this stage, the Military will accept anyone and everyone into the ranks.... Go for it - and good luck.
