honey it's not a question of how much you love your dog...it's a matter of your dogs comfort. you have to find time to walk him, or get a fenced-in yard, or let a responsible person walk him for you. just because you have no time is no excuse for not taking care of your dog.

You need to either make time or perhaps think about finding him a better home. Exercise for a dog is EXTREMELY important.
Perhaps you can check around your area and look into doggie daycare. It can be a bit expensive though. Basically these are places that will watch your dog during the day in an open area where they can play with other dogs. They are pack animals so it's healthy for them to be around other dogs.
Also, you may consider hiring a dog walker to help you out.
If your dog does not get enough exercise they will become unhappy and destructive.
Loving your dog also means doing what is best for them.

get up a little earlier and run him around in the morning. This will mellow him out for a lot of the day. Please do whatever you can to avoid having to find him a good home, as others have suggested. Unfortunately there are not a lot of homes looking for adult high energy dogs. In the US we euthanize 575 homeless animals every HOUR in shelters. Re-homing should be a dead last option, even if you have a friend who wants the dog. A better option would be working this out with your dog and sending your friend to the shelter to help another pet find a home.

Having a dog is a big responsibility. Walking is important for your dog's physical and mental health. If you don't have time to walk him then you don't have time for a dog. I have a border collie and he is a HIGH ENERGY dog. If I don't walk him or take him on a "romp" every day he goes nuts. Try to multi-task.... take him to the dog park and let him run amuck for a good 15-20 minutes while you read your mail or make a phone call. Be a good pack leader and walk your dog every day!!!

You have to make time. It's not fair to the dog because you suddenly got too busy for it. If that's not feasible, hire a dog walker to come and take him out twice a day..

If you have any neighbor kids around maybe you could pay them a little each week to take your dog for walks for you.

Get him a pack and put some weight in it. This will give the dog more exercise in a shorter period of time. You could also roller blade with him/her or get a treadmill.

Well, my dear Lord Bacon, if you can not find a few minutes each day to devote to he who is undeniably your best and most loyal friend, then you should not have a dog. Period.
