Okay, I was thinking about getting a Corgi puppy, and found a person. Before I ask her what the price range is, what is the usual price for a corgi puppy? Not purebred. But thank you for your answers.

Okay you are talking a part-corgi and something else. Not purebred, not registered, not a memeber of the breed - it is ac ross-bred mix.

A reasonable price for a NON-purebred, NON-pedigreeed dog would be about $25-75 plus the cost of the puppy's inital shots and worming. Say $75-150.

It isn't as if this person with the puppy:

(1) made careful study of the corgi breed and what traits -physical and mental - make a good corgi

(2) spent the time and money and effort to acquire dogs who are superior examples of their breed, and spend the time and money to prove the dogs were superior examples of the breed by shoiwng them to justify breeding the next generation

(3) spent the time and money - lots of money - to have their dogs screened for hereditary health conditions. This is not a checkup by the vet but lots of xrays and tests to see if the dog has a condition which can be passed on but the dog isn't yet showing sypmtoms of the problem. In corgis, a biggy that is well over 25% of them - is hip dysplaisa. These test aren't cheap - figure $500-750 for EACH parent.

(4) give a guarantee against hereditary health problems (and probably didn't even do the intial shots and worming for the puppy or give the mother really good care through the pregnancy)

(5) You can adopt a healthy adult corgi from breed rescue for around $150-200.

A well-bred corgi puppy from parents with all the health clearances and who are superior examples of their breed where the breeder gives a written health guarantee for hereditary conditions; has lavished care upon the parents and puppies; knows the bloodlines and has carefully bred for strong healthy dogs with good temperments; will always be available for help and adivise about your puppy; and who will insist that if you ever can not keep the dog at any time during its life, it comes back to them - and never lands in a shelter - cost $400 -800.

Cheap dog from unknown genetic and health background (more than mom and dad) out of poor quality specimens of the breed (anything a backyard breeder uses) probably = large vet bills during its life.

You are taking a risk and that risk is not worth more than it would cost for an adult Corgi from rescue whose health status, behavior and temperment (inherited) is known. So, back to that not more than $75-150.

Why give someone money just because they let their pet have sex?????

Prices vary widely depending not only on registration papers, but also health testing and quality of the parents.

Expect to pay more if the parents have been tested negative for any genetic diseases.

Expect to pay more if the parents have been "proven" through performance events such as obedience, agility, or freestyle.

The problem with buying a non-AKC registered puppy, is that the breeder probably does not care about the quality of the parents. If they did, they would want to track lineage of the dogs and certify their accomplishments in conformation and performance events (dog shows).

Like I said before, prices vary. I would expect a non-registered puppy to be around $200, but do not be surprised if she asks as little as $100 or as much as $500.

If it were me, I would try to find a breeder of registered Corgis and try to establish a payment plan or get a discount. It would be worth it to have a healthier, higher-quality puppy. Prices of AKC registered pups are $500 and up, but you might find a good deal.

Another option to look into is adoption. There are probably many nice Corgis in rescue that could really use a home.

If it's not purebred, then it's not a corgi. A cross breed is not worth a lot in dollars, so don't pay it. If you want a cross breed, check the shelters rather than supporting someone who breeds mutts.

Sorry, it's either a purebred or it's a mutt. Nothing wrong with mutts, just don't pay a lot of money for one.

If it's *NOT* pure bred *&* REGISTERED...then it's JUST a MUTT/MONGREL & worth *NOTHING*!!!!

Ever heard,"You get what you PAY for."???? it's TRUE!
