Why not ask the people themselves what improvements they want/need.
Generally the most important thing is a good supply of water, a hand pump in a central location.
If it is an agricultural village then help the farmers by providing them with pumps etc so they can cultivate their land all year round and earn from the land.
Micro loans are also good to help the villagers become self sufficient.
Things like education/health if you help build them up will the people be able to maintain them? Where will the teachers come from etc? Otherwise since there are already schools you could provide some books and materials to the children, or tables and chairs if the facilities are not there.

I am glad you are interested in doing some thing.
Congratulation.
You know the village battter then I know this village.
I say education always works, but you can set up the guidline and ask the person who take advantage of this generosity to pay back to the village by spending time and educating at aleast two more from the village, this may not be enforcable but I am hoping that some will make up for those who fail for any and many reason by educating more then two more(even ten).

omigod, u r doing such a nice thing 4 these people because trust me, i have been to one of the villages that u are talking about. i love the scenery and all, but the thatched roof huts and their meager lives are really saddening. i love what u did, i mean schools r desperately needed there because there r 65,000 homeless people in india, and a higher literacy rate will definetely help the country, and try to teach the villagers better things on agriculture, because with 10 lakhs u cant make a whole entire other way of income 4 them.

A wonderful tourist campaign always drums up money. Finding a unique land mark, or natural feature can help bring in money, and business. Whatever you do, please let me know if I can help as I am in business here in the US and would like to move, or start a business in India in the next two to five years. You can contact me by my email, listed on my profile, if I may provide any assistance.

Teach them about sanitation, health care and water management. It sounds like a peaceful place. Don't disturb this tranquility with education and modernity. Leave them alone.

iv'e heard a lot about micro loans used to help small remote vilages. the money is spent by the women on something that will make money for her, like a sewing machine, seeds and tools for garden, pipes for water, mobile telephone, craft supplies, making shoes, supplies for store, baking, chickens, goats, ect. they are charged a modest intrest rate. and a huge majority are succesful. most loans are under $200.00 us dollors.

Sounds like you already have a strong foundation with the things that are implemented already. Other possibilities would be sustainable agriculture, housing and dental care.
