So far what I heard about is not very good, sorry to say (About the surgery). I can suggest that you take the Homeopathic Remedy PHYTOLACCA BERRY Tablets to reduce your excessive fat and weight. Hundreds of my patients have used it and found it 100% safe and 100% effective it starts to show results in about 30 to 45 days, is totally free of side effects and does not causes any complications of any kind. It is specifically for obese people who cannot shed weight despite trying. The plus points are though being slow in showing results it keeps you looking and feeling fresh, does not suppresses your appetite you don't look flabby after losing weight. The first positive signs that you see are your face starts looking fresher and glowing. Your menopause troubles can be eradicated by appropriate homeopathic remedies without any side effects or complications. feel free to email me if you need my help regarding Homeopathic remedies and I will be glad to be of help.
Take Care and God Bless you !

I am in a similar boat. I am overweight too and preparing myself to try and conceive. I don't need a doctor to tell me the obvious. Being overweight is hard on the body period. And it can make it harder for some women to conceive and carry full term with a healthy pregnancy. But it's far from impossible. I've tried every diet in the book and recently found the thing that works for me, is eating less but more often and eating organically. I cut my calories to 1500 a day. I either eat Kashi heart 2 heart cereal or eggs and turkey bacon for breakfest. For lunch a big salad with organic low calorie dressing and lots of veggies or organic soups. And for dinner I eat turkey burgers or brats or chicken with organic rosotto and veggies. It's really good. Snacks are dried fruits, fudge pops, healthy snack crackers, veggie chips, string cheese, etc. The options are endless if you find a good health food store. I lost 8 pounds in 14 days with NO exercise and a VERY sereditary life style. I plan on adding exercise soon and when I start losing weight more slowly, i'll cut to 1200 calories a day and add more exercise. I FEEL healthy for the first time in my life. Even going to Wal-Mart and thinking about buying their fruits and veggies makes me sick. On my weekly "day off" I crave my healthy foods. I am fuller with less food and feel better. I am healthy medically besides being overweight too, but losing weight makes me feel good. I am 5'6 and my goal weight is 170. I don't care what any health professional tells me, I know I am healthy and comfortable at that size. O.k. back to YOUR true question, if you are comfortable and healthy at your weight, try finding a new doctor. One who respects and understands you. I would never stay with a doctor I didn't trust or like regardless. There ARE doctors out there who WILL work with you even thought they might all make the same suggestion, they won't all deny you because you are overweight! Good luck and never give up.

Dolly, I know it's hard. I used to weigh 318 pounds.
The procedures are fairly safe. They do a lot of them now so doctors have more experience and know how to prevent some complications. Assuming your heart is OK?
The downside to gastric surgery is that it doesn't take away the underlying reasons for overeating. Few of us eat only when we're hungry. We eat when we're sad, happy, nervous, bored and that will continue after the surgery.
Your new stomach will only hold a small amount of "solid" food, but liquid and soft food will go right through.
Mashed potatoes, gravy, candy, corn, rice, ice cream, sugar cereal, cheesecake, milkshakes, beer, wine, rum and other "liquids" will be easy to eat. Hard foods that might "sit" stuck at the new tiny stomach opening (some people vomit) you'll try less often.
Foods that some gastric patients have problems eating are meat, chicken, pork, pasta, chewy bread and many veggies.
Even Carnie Wilson and Al Roker who had gastric surgery started regaining weight because the "junk" is still easy to eat. Now they follow a lean low carb plan like Kimkins, Carnie is losing again.
You'll have to make the decision yourself, but talk to other people who have had it. Your doctor should have a list of previous patients. Talk to them, ask a lot of questions!

Its not safe really. (im 150 over so im not some skinny tart telling you you eat too much) I was looking into it there is a gastric banding procedure that is much more expensive (but has a lot fewer risks and is reversable) Im from Canada and its not covered under OHIP and it was lik 15K to have it done. The other where they "staple" is in fact dangerous and the complications after are quite frequent and your diet becomes soft, bland foods. If you try and eat normally you will throw up. I have actually gone to LA weight loss and im doing amazing. It works if you do what they tell you. Of course if you do not follow it, it will not work and they teach you how to eat properly and its something that will be forever and will be alot easier on my system. I can eat anything and they teach you how to count it.
Im not saying dont do it, i've been there but really do your research and make sure they are not telling you that its a walk in the park it isnt

Surgical weight reduction seems really scary and drastic. Before I spent a lot of money for someone to cut me open I would look at other options. A lot of times the reasons we fail at diets is because we fail ourselves. I would go to a doctor who specialized in weight reduction and try that first (if you haven't already).

there are some serious concerns with this method. I personally know four people who have had the surgery, three are female. They have all lost significant amounts of weight, but the truth is that none of them look healthy. They have all also had some complications afterwards, mostly ulcers. The one male I know nearly bled to death because of the severity of the ulcers. I have heard that there are people who die from this. The best way to lose weight is the old-fashioned diet and exercise.

You don't mention what surgery you intend to have. If banding/stapling it's sorta on the honor system. very close friend has had both. still 5'5 and 290 (she did not change her eating habits and (over time) stretched her stomach out and can still eat a great deal of food. Another friend and the radical gastric bypass surgery she's lost over 100# but can only eat ONE OUNCE of food at a sitting. no cokes/greasy food/spicy food-well you get the point--it involves a lifestyle change you can only eat about one tablespoon of food at a time

The procedures available are alot safer now than they used to be. Many women have difficulty after they've lost all the weight them want to, they feel lost and don't know who they really are. Suggest you not only talk to a surgeon about which surgery is best for you, but also talk to a therapist about the psychological impact of success.
