usually til it falls off by itself. butterflies are usually used in holding the edges of lacerations together. If you remove it too soon you risk reopening the laceration.

I have incorrectly applied a butterfly bandage on my wound (Forehead).. It has been draining for two days now and I am afraid to remove the bandage. It is not bleeding just draining fluid. Should I go to the E.R.?

Let it fall off by itself. You're trying to bring lacerated edges together to heal. Leave it alone and let your body do its job healing.
