Naomi, as a Viet-nam era Veteran-US ARMY Artillery--the most important thing you can do for your beloved boyfriend, is to write to him every day !!! getting a letter daily, at mail call, is so important !!! tell him about everything that happens back home, in your daily wanderings, because he is there, and you are here !! tell him how much you love him, and how proud WE ALL ARE, THAT HE IS PROTECTING US ALL, BY SERVING IN IRAQ !!! Send him a nice picture of yourself, in a nice frame, with something sweet signed by you on the picture, for the holidays !! also, encourage his family, and his friends and your friends, and people from your church, to write to him with positive sentiments and well wishes !! the more mail he can get from home, the better !! yet the most important thing you can give him, is your daily love and support, and pride in what he is doing for the USA, in your daily letters to him !! maybe send a CD or Cassette of some of his favorite music or songs--or even better, a cassette or video of you talking to him, so he can hear your voice, and or the voices of his family also, wishing him a Merry Christmas, and telling him how much he is missed and loved !! maybe, a small key chain with your picture attached or something like that ?? i wish you both happiness in your lives, and pray with you, for his safe return !! God Bless y'all !!!

Make him a scrapbook of some of your fave pics of you 2 together. Also include pics of things you've done while he's been gone. That way, he can feel like he's been part of it.
Make him a cd of some of your fave music. You can even do it on the puter and then include voice messages to him. Introduce some of the songs.
Send him a small prelit Christmas tree and a box of decorations. Make the decorations yourself. Fill a stocking with all his fave things. Send stocking with toiletries and such to some of his friends who don't have wives or girlfriends. Don't forget to send a cd of Christmas music. Maybe even some of the good ole holiday classic tv shows (Rudolph, Frosty and so on). It perks up their spirits to see things like that, from home.
Just about anything you can make, he'll appreciate. It always means just a little more to know that you put the time and effort into it.
Good luck and stay strong. You'll make it through and be more in love for it.

What ANY service person NEEDS is peace of mind that thier partner/spouse/ etc will ALWAYS be there for them come what may.
They NEED to KNOW that when they come home again, you will have remained true to him/her, and whilst away you will maintain a regular contact with him/her.
It's the easiest gift ANYONE can bestow on ANY service personnel, but, unfortunately, it's sometimes the most difficult.
Material gifts, whilst appreciated don't have the same effect as peace of mind. Try making cassette tapes or CDs for him of your voice so he/she can play when he needs a friendly voice.

You probably won't get to my answer, but if you do try going to Blogger.com and start a blog, its free. While yes it is a public forum you can write to him every day. you can share intimate moment, share photos, write to each other as often as possible without being constrained to the mail. If he doesn't have access to the Internet. Create a scrapbook for him. My wife did a new page every week for the entire first year of my sons life. It was the most amazing gift I ever received.

Send him something flat and light that is easy to mail and to carry around.
T-shirt with your picture ON THE INSIDE so that only HE gets to see it;
pillowcase with your picture on it, or message embroidered on it;
if you have long hair - a really Victorian throwback: a bracelet, or pendant or anything braided out of your own hair.
AS you can see my suggestions are for something intimate, personal and meaningful that remains mostly private between you.
Good luck!

My friend's husband was over in Iraq. For his birthday she bought him a football and had all of his friends and family sign it. He loved it because he knew that everyone was thinking about him, and the football gave him something to do. I think anything to keep them from being bored at their base when they are stuck there would be great.

What about a Military Correspondence Kit, to make it easier for him to write (when there's no access to e-mail) and keep track of letters, pictures, etc. See source for details.
Or, any kit or box to show how much you miss him, items from home, food, etc.
Good luck, and thanks to you for your support of him, and to your boyfriend!
(Note: My company used to do PR for World Prep and its correspondence kit; but, sincerely, it's a good idea. Maybe include it with other items?)
