the best way to treat an abscess is surgery.

u'll have some rough time treating the abscess nicely..after surgery u'll have to take really good care so that u'll not get secondary bacterial infections, which will make it worse.

if u take good care of it,u'll have no probs afterwards.

just make sure the surgeons do a good job removing everything.otherwise it'll grow back again.
good luck.

Has the abcess been drained or are you using a drawing salve to dry it out?

If the abcess was drained you should keep it dry and clean, don't wear deodorant, let the air get to the area as much as possible, clean with hydrogen peroxide to dry out any additional pus, take antibiotics if recommended by a doctor.

If you go to the drug store and get a drawing salve then you can expect weeping of the wound so use gauze pads to soak up the moisture and clean it often with iodine soap (if you aren't allergic) then go to the doctor if the swelling doesn't go down, the abcess turns dark purple or if streaks appear on the skin.

Feel better.

I have one under my are also. My doctor has treated mine with an antibiotic previously but it keeps returning. He has also done and I & D which is incision and drainage. You would not believe the relief after that was done. Mine has since returned and I intend to schedule with the doctor again to have this done and to get it cultured to test what it is and if it is resistant to any med. Depending on what is done depends on the healing process. After I had the I & D mine healed pretty fast but I have to go without deodorant and shaving for a time period.

Oh yeah. Those hurt like crazy! You can apply warm compresses to it for comfort. However, I recommend that you go to the doctor because God knows what is growing in it and it takes about 2 weeks for the thing to drain. The doc can lance it and give you antibiotics. You definitely need them. Godloveya.

Ive never had one but my husband has and the best thing to do is try to pop it with a sterile needle and press till you see clean blood. then wipe with alcohol. You might have a small scar. Do not let it get infected.
