My house has a red brick facing that runs about half way up to the roof. What would be good colors to paint the upper half?

No! No red, no brown. White looks good with it, light beige or another light color. You can do small, slim areas of trim with red or brown with the white.

Mix up enough cement into a mortar type mix and add some cement red coloring powder from a Hardware shop and maybe you might also need some black to tone the red down to match the brick color as close as possible. Carefully fill the holes with the mortar mix until it begins to exude from the drill holes. I actually saw a repair being done by the person dipping a drinking straw into the mortar mix and blowing gently through the straw with their mouth until it was the same as I said previously, I think you'd have to be very fussy though to use that method. Clean any excess off the bricks before it dries. If necessary top up the holes once the mortar in the holes is nearly dry. You can then clean any cement or coloring from the surface of the bricks after several days using a diluted cement cleaning agent, usually hydrochloric acid diluted with water or sometimes caustic Soda will do the same but be extremely careful as the acid or alkali can burn the skin or damage the eyes or damage clothing etc. Wear protective clothing and safety goggles if you decide to clean it with the aforementioned chemicals

Earth tones! A darker shade will enhance the the brick as a feature and a lighter shade will do the opposite. Is the brickwork finely done and deserves to be noticed or somewhat bland and should be muted? If you have a sample of the brick, bring it to your home center to have it color-matched in the paint department (if you don't, knock off a small corner in the back yard).
Your decision of the brick's worthiness to the architectural significance of your home is key. Good luck. Use similar colors, up or down.

I would use a gray, similar to the color of the mortar between the bricks to unify the parts. A darker gray would be a nice trim.

Anything but red. White with hunter green trim would go nice.
