If he was licking the kitten, then it doesn't sound like total hate. Most likely the older cat just wants to establish dominance over the other cat, and also probably wants to play with it. In my experience, the cats will get used to each other in time. Some fighting and chasing is normal, cats tend to do this for fun and to maintain a pecking order. As long as you continue to see signs that they get along sometimes, I think it sounds like they'll be ok.

Your 2 yr old cat came first and he will have the hardest time adjusting to the new cat. So long as they arent really hurting each other, i.e. serious blood bath, then it is all normal. They will case and swat and some times will love on each other to get the smell of the other cat. This may take a week or three. It wont happen over night. I would keep them separate for now while you are away. Make sure for now they have their own stuff too. Food, water, bedding and so on. Then you can slowly merge them together. Quick and fast change for cats is hard. They dont like change, they react by being "bad" normally. Try to remember this is harder on them then it is you and once your old cat sees you being nice to the new cat and that all of you can interact well then the old one will come along. Try to be completely equal to both. It will all just take time. Step back breath and just love your cats. Good luck!

Yes. They may not be the best of friends, but as long as your older cat is not physically harming the younger cat, then they're okay. I just did the same thing, except I had TWO older cats that were a little over one year old! And the kitten I brought home was only SIX WEEKS OLD! And the older cats were being very mean to the younger cat, but after one week, they weren't so mean to the younger cat. The older cats still swat at the younger one, but that's just so the younger one know's it's place! :)

Did you introduce the cats properly? which potential, shop the kitten locked in a mattress room with that's very own foodstuff, water, field, and so on. That way the cats can interract in the process the door for a at an analogous time as. This helps the older cat get used to the hot smell. it is going to additionally enable the older cat to strengthen some interest with reference to the hot addition on your place. regardless of in case you probably did no longer do it precise the 1st time i think of you're able to smash out with doing it now. in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, if i became a kitten and knew that my atmosphere became plenty larger than the room i'm now caught in it would tension me a sprint bonkers. make absolute to no longer scold your 5 year previous cat whilst he/she hisses and runs. He/she is in basic terms letting the kitten understand that it does not like that habit. now and lower back there is no longer something you're able to do, yet i'm particular you will get a great number of effectual concepts. stable success!

They have made friends, a cat doesn't groom another cat he doesnt like. Cats however, can play pretty wildly, chasing each other, play fighting, even sometimes the play fight can get out of hand until one hisses or growls (which usually tells the other one to "cool it ". Cats can play a lot rougher with each other harmlessly, than they could play with a human! Cats who are friends though, sometimes do get into quarrels, which can sound awful but are harmless and usually a quarrel erupts and is settled between the cats as quickly as it began.
