You have asked one of the great questions of our time. America's priorities defy logic. Presently the United States is building a new generation of jet fighters to fight an enemy that doesn't even exist. We have gotten benfits from space exploration, as in better weather forcasts, but I've never heard of a useful product to come out of a moon rock. We went to the moon not for science, but to proove that capitalism was better than comunism. The cold war is over and the spending goes on and on. There are A LOT of people all over the world that are questioning the priorities of our society. For example, it would take only a small investment by the developed world to give every person clean water, food, and education. There is an organization called one.org that is working toward that goal. Many other organizations concerned with economic justice and ending poverty are part of the One campaign. There is a list on the One.org site. If the people lead, the leaders will follow, but with people suffering by the millions, waiting for government to act isn't (in my eyes anyway) a moral option. I give a part of my small income every month to OxfamAmerica to help with their relief work in Darfur. We are busy poisoning the only planet we've got, and so much of the difference between the rich and the poor are a result of government policies and indiference in the rich countries. I try to influence public policy on these matters any way I can. Go to www.one.org and sign the pledge, then get everyone you know to do it too. Live what you believe. Also, if you can find it, see the new Discovery Channel documentary "Bob Geldof in Africa".

Cost. It is a lot cheaper to launch a satellite to watch for hurricanes than it is to deal with the other problems. Politics is involved also; there is available a new species of rice that could dramatically reduce malnutrition among people on a heavy rice diet, but because it is genetically engineered, people are reluctant to let it be used.

because the all of the governments in the world are cheap. Its cheaper to make a rocket fly than to deal with billions of people on an individual basis. Besides if politicians actually fixed the problems of the world they wouldnt have anything to promise during their campaign

Haven't found any solution for ignorance. About 50% of the poor people are too lazy to get the education they need. The poor are the only one that can help them ,when they will not live like that any Moore. They will probably kill u.
