When my stepdaughter was a baby, her mother put her father out, and made it very difficult for him to see his daughter (this is around the time we started dating). She began dating this new guy, and had her daughter refer to him as "daddy." They have a child together, but they are not together any more, she has since been in and out of relationships with a few guys. My step-daughter refers to my husband as her "dad" and this other guy as her "other daddy." I am MARRIED to her father, but I only get referred to as my first name. She's nine, smart as a whip, but I wonder if she gets it that I'm her step mother, and this other guy is not even related to her. Thoughts?

this is a tough situation to be in, I have two step kids as well and they call me by my first name, Iwould say that the mother is pushing her daughter to call the other one daddy as a form of getting back at your husband, my ex tried that with my daughter he tried to get to call his defacto wife mum and she refused to do it.......having the title of mum or dad is something that needs to be earned and given by the child forcing them dosn't make the relationship any better this is something the mother may be trying to acheive, as she has had more failed relationships then you and your partner....she is in effect trying to create the happy family image by getting your daughter to call her step dad daddy.

Try not to let it bother you so much, just be there for her when she needs it or when the relationship fails again with her mother!

Good Luck!

She knows already. She does not want refer to you in that way. Step parents are not exactly easy to accept for a child. Please don't worry about this and create an issue of this if you care about this girl.
