The Race of Man is not all knowing, any man woman or child who rushes to conform to the societal norm is only a lesser puppet of the social structures that encompass him or her. There is no one on earth who is of their own concession entirely. There are people who don't fully agree with what they are taught, but still attempt to conform in one way or another. Even rebels are conforming to the concept of not flowing with the crowd to be different, and that is a social stance all it's own, but not independent of society, eat yer heart out you stupid teenage punks.

As an example of "why": you've so far visibly conformed to American culture by learning to read and write in English; you've conformed to the rules of YA by posting a question about society within reasonable distance of the category it belongs in; and you've conformed to modern human psychology by reasoning that you must value your individuality. So have I. I know it and it doesn't upset me, so it could be said that you and I are both okay with conforming to reasonable societal norms -- we do it because the fundamental human element that we share is a desire to be close to each other.
Of course it's stupid to just do whatever you're told, but it's just as stupid to reject every civic compromise you encounter to prove a point.

Most people can't think of a better way to act then the way everyone has thought of acting. If you got a better way do it. But it wont be judged simply on merit since most people will resist change and call you wierd for being progressive.

Because you don't have to know everything to know something. Not conforming to what is normal basically means you know nothing. There is a pretty wide gap between omniscience and dumbass.

Still a choice. We may not be all knowing, but we are always learning.
