ABSOLUTELY NOT

The virus causes 'cold' symptoms in some parts of your body, but it has moved into ALL of your body tissues, including the muscles.

The virus increases your need for energy, so you have less left over for exercise. Your immune system also needs energy to fight the virus off, AND a nice calm circulation system to work in.

Exercising while you have a virus allows the virus to divert even more of your energy. The extra heat will help the virus to breed. The acidic byproducts of energy conversion will interfere with the immunity activities of leucocytes (large white blood cells) and the increased blood flow will batter them to pieces.

(a normal workout when healthy can reduce white cell activity by 40%)

Most importantly, the presence of a virus can distort the signals that control your heart. Several people have died after playing squash and other vigorous activities BECAUSE THEY HAD A 'COLD' and should have been resting up.

Some light movement can be useful; tai chi has been shown to stimulate immune activity, but mostly in habitual users.

As long as you do not have a high fever, you should be able to exercise as usual. Be sure to drink plenty of water and juice since you are more apt to become dehydrated while you have a cold.

Although you probably don't feel like exercising it is the best thing for you. If you really don't feel like doing it - maybe cut some time out of it. Unless I am on my deathbed I always go to the gym.

If you feel well enough to exercise for at least 20 min, then you should do it. And when you start to feel like crap stop. Make sure you listen to your body. Your body DOES need more rest when youre sick, so make sure to get that rest when your body needs it.

Only your doc can tell you if you need rest or can keep on keeping on. Go see him or her. They are the only ones that can tell you one way or another.
