I am taking Lexapro, which helps. But my Medicare Part D presciption insurance will only pay for 30 pills per month at any dosage level. I really need 40mg/month to be symptom free, but because the plan won't allow me to get 60 tablets at 20 mg each, I have to get 30 tablets at 10mg and 30 tablets at 20mg, for a total dosage of 30mg per day each month. When will generic Lexapro be available? Do I have any other choices? I can barely afford this, and am getting to the point of having to choose between food and medicine. HELP!!!

There is no "best" medicine for depression. Each drug works on people differently and thats why there are so many.
If you live in a state where Walmart offers the $4 generic drugs (to anyone, by the way even the uninsured) they offer the generics of Prozac and Paxil. Talk to your doctor to see if one of these drugs could help you. Remember, it takes 4-6 weeks for these medications to work completely and you should wait at least 8 weeks before deciding whether the drug is working for you or not. I'd also consider changing your Part D provider if you can.

Is the Lexapro working for you if you have the correct dosage? If so, then I would contact the manufacturer directly. They have been doing this more and more--helping people get prescriptions for free, if you qualify. Sounds like you do if you have to choose between food and medication.

There are many antidepressants and each of them works differently on different people. If the Lexapro is working for you and your problem is dosage, I'd stick with the Lexapro. Have your doctor call and talk to your provider about extending coverage, or call the manufacturer to see if they will help you as many of them are doing so now.

Everyone is effected by different medications differently. What works well for one person, may not work well for another. Call your insurance company and your doctor to try to figure out what you can do to get your full dosage. You may have to switch meds if your insurance still won't allow for you needed dose of Lexapro.

Honestly you should lay off all those prescriptions and rely on mother nature. Smoke a joint.
