Yes you can do both. It sound s like a very complicated procedure but it's not. The tooth is cleaned out, like getting to filling then the Dr. measures the length of the canal inside the jaw and takes xrays to see if the measurement is correct. After the Dr. finds the right measuements it gets filled with gutta percha(which is the name of the filling) and sealed with a temporary filling or a permanent filling-even sometimes they take the measuremnets for the crown. A root canal is not a big deal, don't even worry. You will be fine at your dental visit.

No because they usually give you either a relaxant like Valium or put you out completely so you will be too spacey to drive yourself home or go back to work.
Ask your dentist if you can do it with a local anesthetic. If you can, then you will be numb, but not stoned.
I'm not sure I'd want a root canal without being asleep.

Yes. I had a root canal last year and I drove myself back to work. It wasn't very painful at all. There was a tiny bit of discomfort the next day but not what everyone makes you believe. Trust me, its not as bad as it sounds. You will be fine.

I did, my face was a little numb, making it hard to talk, but really the pain wasn't bad...and as soon as the side effects of the novacain wore off i was fine. Some people would prefer just to stay at home and rest though..not everyones root canals go perfectly.

Yes, I was able to drive afterwards---all they give you is Novocaine (sp?)---I had mine in the late afternoon and then went home.....I was a little sore and couldn't really eat anything for a while. I would suggest to you to have it done late afternoon and then go home and rest, but you can defiantly go to work the next day.

Yes. Mine was no different than having a filling done, except it took longer in the chair.
