Hindus believe that God is omnipotent. So logically God ix in everything and every creature. So why not mice. The reason is there are different stories in different parts of India involving different creatures.

As per mythology many creatures give a helping hand to God's avatar in their fight against evil forces.Such creatures are rewarded and honoured as the avatar's vehicle.
Mouse happens to be the vehicle of Lord Ganesha and snake the vehicle of Lord Vishnu.
They don't actually worship mouse as the God It is a recognition for the part played by them There are no separate temples for such creatures except perhaps Hanuman(with a monkey face) a great disciple of RAM foe helping the slaying of Ravana,
As for snakes apart from being God's vehicle, village people are afraid of snakes. So small statues of snakes (depicting the king of the snakes Nagaraja)find a place in temples and also in forests.
After death family elders are also worshipped like Gods.

It's not so bad. At least the Indians are worshipping something that actually exists and is real.

Joke said, maybe its due to their respect for nature and animals.

The mice is to bring money, and the monkey is for luck and the snake is for your enemy.
