I think there is a case for banning them for sale to the public, and just allowing organised displays that have been approved, and the dates advertised so you would know if there was one near you. That would be safer all round. My dog is scared but hes 12 now and going deaf so they dont seem to bother him as much. But he used to try and hide under the coffee table (hes a rottweiler x -definatley not enough of room!)
Mind you, I made this point to my hubby who pointed out that we both ended up in casualty last year at an organised display - he got a spark in his eye and i got a toddler finger in mine

My mother-in-law gets a valium type of tablet from the vets to sedate her two little dogs over the week!!
I have to draw my curtains and turn all the tv's on so my dog doesn't go crazy - even if she cant hear them, she sees them through the window!
and yes I think there should be a total ban!! I rang the police on one guy who lives a couple of houses away from me, I was out walking the dog at 6pm, and he decided to set fireworks off in his front garden!! My poor dog was petrified!! The police wouldnt do a thing!!!!

Lucily fireworks are outlawed where I'm from (US, Illinois). The 4th of July is about the only time we have to deal with them. Thanksfully.
They can be really hard on pets. Not too much you can do besides keeping your pet indoors and as cozy as possible. Some Vets are even willing to give tranquilizers to help severe cases.

It's impossible to control people using fireworks. Be grateful that it's nearly over and the silent nights of Christmas are just around the corner.

my dog used to pee all over the place with fireworks..it was pure hell for him..and for us mopping up pee all the time. You cant do much about it , there are ways to train dogs not to fear the sudden noise( gunshots etc) but you have to start from a puppy. Wish I had known that!

If your pets are stressed don't spend money at the vets. I went to the local healthfood shop today and bought stay calm. Its a herbal tonic that you put in the water over the next week.
I've used it before with other pets and prefer it to tablets.

If your pet is bothered by fireworks, you should give them attention by stroking/cuddling/talking to them. or .Put soothing music on in the background, surprisingly enough, pets love calming music panpipes/flutes etc more than us humans. So putting this kind of music on in the background will surely enough calm your pet. You can buy/download this type of music easily of the internet. Or contact me if you would like me to send you some. chashcroft_123@yahoo.co.uk
Hope this helps owners- with stressed pets.â¥âº

I wish they were.
Not likely to happen around my area though.
I have to keep the radio on loud to try and lessen the impact of the crashing and bashing and the blinds shut to block out the flashes.
